Gouden Carolus Classic, first colour of the "Great to Beer a Belgian" tri-colour, is the base of the series. “Het Anker” Brewery still brews “The Emperor’s Beer” which is of guaranteed top fermentation and bottle conditioning following traditional methods. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even improves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and its rich bouquet. Ideally, serve at 8-10°C .

This is the darkest beer that wasn't black I've ever seen. It's extremely dark brown yet a light beam won't go through it. The aroma is of malt and like a fig newton. The mouthfeel is just very slightly zingy but not bitter or watery. The flavor is subtle and not complex but is refreshing.

Had a bign to myself :) pleasant all around as expected. Perhaps a bit darker. Was expecting more golden than brown for some reason. Dark fruits and an herbal yeasty kick greet the nose and palate. Finishes sweet, slightly dry, and slightly alcoholic. Solid BSA.

A dark brown color with a red tint and a white head. The aroma contains some dark fruit, spices, chocolate and alcohol. The flavor is rather sweet with more chocolate, raisins, caramel, and spices. The alcohol is showing a little bit in the finish. Overall this is a really good beer.

Dark brown color with thick brownish foam head. Lacing to glass and sticking tomlip. Sweet fruity and caramel aroma, caramel in taste but still bitter enough for my taste. Did well with tomato soup. (Utrecht 201203)

Strong, fruity aroma has a sharp edge and a hint of caramel. It pours a pretty dark coppery brown wit a fairly thick and fluffy light tan head that leaves some lacing. Fruity flavor has a malty undertone and woody and burnt caramel hints. It is also on the sweet side, but not too much. Smooth, full-bodied texture has plenty of fizz and leaves a sweet, fruity, tingly finish with just a touch of caramel.

I drank GCC from tap and it was allright. Nice two finger head on top of the dark brown brew. Aroma has bits of cinnamon, some fruits and nuts. Alcohol is present, but not disturbing. The beer is easy to drink and easy to forget as well. Fine beer, but just not that special in my humble opinion.

Clear dark brown some burgundy shining through very limited skiff but this still managed to leave behind some lacing. First aroma that hit me was banana an alcohol kicker, good clove and some black liquorish I think. Been a while since I’ve had a beer like this and man do I miss them. Taste is yummy and smooth but not a thick chewy flavor. Banana , clove, possible vanilla. The alcohol is completely hidden from the taste but it is giving me I nice warm feeling inside. Spicy sweet overall taste with perfect wheaty banana, good brew.

BB 04/17/12. This beer pours a nice deep, chestnut brown with a one finger tan head that fades to a thin layer after a couple minutes. Leaves some sloppy lacing on the glass. Aromas of yeast, sweet malt, dark fruits. Flavour is rather sweet with toffee, fruit, yeast and a touch of alcohol. Medium body with low carbonation goes down easy for a 8.5%. The flavour coats your mouth and stays long after the sip is done. Alcohol is well hidden only coming out as a warm sensation after swallowing. Very good overall I really enjoyed this one.

Purchased at the LCBO with a best before date of 14/07/12. Pours a deep red-orange colour with a big beige head with medium retention and some wavy lace. Very tiny bubble carbonation that is light to average. Complex aromas of banana, nuts, dark fruits, caramel, yeast and hints of molasses, but not overpowering. Not a thick brew, medium-bodied with just a little stickiness. I do not feel any burn at all - very well-hidden alcohol. The taste is on the sweet side with brown sugars, syrup, caramel, but not too sweet either. Notes of wood, banana and a little metallic flavour in the aftertaste. A pretty interesting beer with lots of aromas and taste that is not too strong in any department, just very well-brewed, and easy drinking for such a high alcohol content.
