With a hint of peat smoked malt, this stout is a return to county cork and the warmth of the Irish hearth.

Pours a jet black with a sub one finger head that stays for a bit. No light has a chance in hell of trying to go through it. Aroma is fairly bland with hints of dryness and sweets. Taste is very dry with a strong burned/smoked taste to it. The smokiness kinda tastes like beef jerkey and does not sit well. Not the best.

Big props to phishpond for sending me this one: big black pour with a tannish head and soft lacing. Smoky peat aroma as advertised - very earthy with some burnt sugar and malts. Taste is earthy smoky peat up front then almost burnt malts with a bit of almost burnt caramel. Interesting, earthy, different. Nice change of pace - thanks Travis!

Dark thick rich black copper head. Smells of malts of rusty dark black earth. Maybe some chocolate. Definately reminds me of the flavor of rich dirt, maybe 3 feet under the surface. Excellent local stout.

Poured from a bottle and had a 1/4 in. almond head to it. Smooth but it's really smokey for a stout. The label says a hint...it's more than a hint. It's possible it takes away from the other flavors in the beer. It's a decent' stout but much different due to the smoke flavors.

This beer poured a dark black color with literally no head. It had roasted malt aromas with hints of smoke. Its flavor was largely smoky with ntoes of bacon. Not unlike a Smoked Ale or Rauchbier.

This dry stout pours a dark black color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee and some smoke. A medium bodied stout. The malts are semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, some smoke and some peat. The hops are earthy. Kind of mellow tasting, there is a touch of smoke at the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pitch black body with a thin tan head that disapates quickly leaving little lace. The nose is roasted malt and smoke. Medium-bodied and smooth on the palate, but a still little thin for the style. The flavors are roasted malts, chocolate and coffee with a mild smokiness. A smooth, slightly tangy finish with some residual bitterness. Considering the deep, rich color, the well-roasted malts and the smoke, this is surprisingly easy-drinking, although ultimately it lacks the desired complexity and robust character I was looking for.

This beer pours a completely black colour, as black as night you could say. Creamy malts with a touch of smoke in the aroma, not overwhelming. And even smokey in the finish. A deep rich mouthfeel, one of my favorites from this brewery.
