Full Sail Old Boardhead Barleywine

2008 version. Pours slightly hazy caramel with a thin buttermilk head. Aroma generates spice, toasty malt, boozy and woody notes. Flavor adds spices, woody and toasted malt character. Texture features decent body & peppy fizz. Don't be "board," have a glass.

Picked up one of these at Freddy's the other day. B-wine for $4.99? This I had to try. 2012 version, amber colour with a medium sized head. Soft caramel nose. Ripe fruit, hint of hotness little creamy and under carbonated. But pleasant none the less.

This one falls short of a true barleywine. A deep amber color. Small light beige frizzy head that disappears fairly A thick ringlet is impressively left bwhind. Light profile of caramel, citric hops and pepper. Thin bodied.

From Lucky Liquors. 2010 vintage. This is rather thin for a barleywine. A light in the ABV, too. Pours a scotch-colored amber. Much like a ring of fire, this burns, burns, burns. Zero complexity. Sweet caramel flavors, and some bitter undercurrent. Peppery finish. Glad it was only $4. Unfortunately, I had to finish the whole thing by myself. It took me all night, but I finally did it.

At 9%, this could be considered by some to be a barleywine light, but that single digit ABV does a lot of good. A copper coloured beer with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt, weak floral hops, yeast, and applish tones. Flavour is well balanced and at 9%, very drinkable.

Poured a modestivory head over a body of clear amber. The gentle aroma had malts and alcohol. Flavour also showed the high ABV, along with toffee and malts, but not much bitterness. This got better towards the end, as the start was a bit disconcerting. Mouthfeel was smooth. Probably would improve with aging, so I shoul get another to put away for awhile.

One of the last bottles obtained from my Dark Lord Day trading excursions. Bottle is from the 2010 batch and was in fine form. Clear dark copper pour, upfront fruity malt and subdued hop aroma, Smooth and medium bodied with a great clean taste for an American Barleywine. The aggressive hops have faded enough to mellow out the brew, yet still maintained enough presence please the senses. Somewhat lighter in texture from a malt stand point and this was well received as it created for a nice and easy drinking experience. Impressed with how good this was.

OOooooOOooo. 2010. Pours clearish amber brown with low to no head. Sweet but with a nice hop bite and a bit of alcohol. Sweet, watery, dirty. Very good, not great. Gotta lose the watery thang.

2008. Bottle from scrizz. Amber color and pours with a thin tan head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma shows caramel, toffee, red licorice, plums and a little citrus. The citrus hop scent seems to put up steam as it warms and breathes. This drinks rather light for a barleywine. Sweet tasting with brown sugar, dark and citrus fruit, toffee, maple, and a nice little citrus hop finish. Moderate bitterness. I like this. A blue collar barleywine, nothing flashy, but not overly sweet, sticky, hot or hoppy either. A nice balanced blend of all that which results in a pretty tasty and very drinkable evening sipper.

2007 version. Can definitely tell this comes from the Pacific Northwest. Piney, citrusy hops abound but a strong malt backbone keeps the abundant hops in check. Great balance and such a high ABV makes this dangerously easy to drink.
