Out of the Ashes is a series of limited release beers that showcase the varied and unique flavors and aromas delivered from malt smoked over wood-burning fires. The first member of the series, Rauchbier, features 100% smoked malt. The malt smoked over beechwood is intensely aromatic, and the malt smoked over oak imparts a smooth and rich sweetness. Gold medalist GABF 2012 smoke beer.

22 oz bottle. Pours clear gold with a small fizzy white head that quickly goes to a light dusting.
The aroma is a little sweet malt with a big smoke note - bbq and campfire with some liquid smoke.
The flavor is sweet bready malt with a slight vegetal note and a big smoke finish that's more ashy than bbq. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low sharp carbonation.
Overall, an OK smoked beer - kind of sweet and ashy.
