F & M StoneHammer Oatmeal Coffee Stout

Can. Colour - a solid brownish-black colour, big creamy brown head, very good lacing. Aroma - roasted malt, dark chocolate, black cherry, nuts. Mouthfeel - full bodied, well carbonated. Flavour - a lot of dark chocolate and coffee with hints of black licorice in the finish. A good beer I would try again.

Tallboy from the Beer Store. Pours a fairly big frothy tan head and has a deep dark brown, almost pitch black appearance. Some thick dirty lacing remains. Aromas of coffee, oatmeal, notes of chocolate and dark roasted malts. Flavours are fairly sweet, notes of oatmeal and coffee are abundant. Some roasted malts and earthy herbal hops are also noticeable. Hints of cocoa and vanilla in the finish. Smooth and slick mouthfeel. Medium body. Average carbonation. Pretty good.

I’m not all that impressed with the F&M Brewery as I feel their beers lack complexity. This is a fine example of a beer that lacks complexity as the roasted malt is expected to carry both the aroma and the flavour and it falls short for me. There needs to be more of a coffee/chocolate note to make this a winner.

Can from the LCBO listing 5% ABV. Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with very little highlights. The head is creamy, bubbly, long lasting with some nice dirty lacing. Chocolate malt aromas with hints of coffee and roasted malts. The taste is mildly sweet from the oatmeal, over the roasted malts, chocolate and coffee notes. Decent Oatmeal Coffee Stout but nothing too exceptional.

5.5% on the can. Dark brown pour, Tan head doesn't last long and leaves no lacing. Coffee grounds and chocolate aroma. Medium creamy mouth feel. Flavour of coffee, chocolate, vanilla and smoke. Not a bad offering but one I don't think I need to visit again.

I tried this beer on draught on November 18, 2011 at "C'est What" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer pours a sold dark brown with a medium brown foamy head. The aroma is mocha, coffee, and vanilla. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was coffee, chocolate, anise, and vanilla

Dregs of the keg at the Kiwi: Black and light shedding, pufft tan cap good lace. Cocoa and coffee dominate the nose, wafts of dark fruit and grass. Thin bodied but coffee predominates flavor but there are some gerbal fresh hop cone bittering balance. Finished clean dry and bitter with a tad of astringency. Good effort.
