This rich, dark Porter has been brewed using crystal, chocolate, black and amber malts from floor malted Sussex barley. The 'bittering' hop is the Sussex grown Admiral, which gives the beer its name. The winemaker's twist is to ferment and condition the beer with oak, giving a delicate balance of sweetness and bitterness, full depth of flavour and creamy vanilla notes. The ideal glass for appreciating the Admiral Porter at its best is a low goblet. As the porter is bottle-conditioned it does produce a sustained, coffee-coloured head which this wide-topped but slightly tapered glass helps to retain

Each other review is contradictory, but with middle numbers. I really dug this. Strong oak nose right away, french oak, light vanilla and instant coffee. Awesome head retention, very brit, bready, chocolate and crystal malts in high proportion. Leans to the sweeter side of the spectrum. There is a champagne lightness to the beer which is welcome in a unique porter however it is still strong while remaining elegant and serious. The oak character is perfect; just a touch of complexity, making the beer smooth and accessible.

Dark brown colour with mediumsized brown head. Aroma is sweet acidic fruits along with hops and coffee. Some wet, burnt wood is also present. Flavour is old coffee, sour and acidic dark fruit. The aftertaste is quite the same, but with chocolateish hints. A very sour and acidic porter, otherwise it could be nice...

Black with thick tan head. Oaky aroma with notes of dark chocolate and metal with a sourish undertone. Oaky and and rather sour flavour with fragile notes of roasted malts. Fairly thin body. Sweeter finish with a harch note of bitter cold coffee. Not a huge fan, almost decent.
