The Ozzy Osbourne of Old Ales Eel River Brewing Company's award winning Triple Exultation Ale is what is known as an "Old Ale." Old Ales are an English style of dark, rich and sweet ale, typically with flavors of soft, curranty fruit and blackstrap molasses. Theakston's Old Peculiar is a typical British version from our book. What makes the Triple Exultation SO different & typically American is that Ted has added a ton of hops to ramp up the IBU's to about 100! This beer is not your grandfathers Old Ale! (if he were a Brit) This is the Ozzy Osbourne of Old Ales baby, and it is delicious! This was the first keg to blow Friday and Saturday this year at the Holiday Ale Fest and for a reason, it is awesome! Oct. 2016: 650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.7%. Dark brown colour, large beige head. Aroma of rich malts and fruity and earthy hops. Medium sweet flavour, malty first, followed by fruity hops and a very resinous and earthy massive bitterness.

ok, so I'm one of those guys that goes out of his way to try really good beer. I mean, given the choice, what would you do? Moving on... so I was really excited to find this in Victoria. My first Eel River! A-Orange amber colour. Ar-Lovely smell. Sweet, sugary, pleasant aroma with a nice thin head and soapy lacing. Eights and sevens. T- Sweet dried dark fruits. Really sweet, candied sugar flavour. Pleasant finish. Lingering, slightly overwhelming sweetness that masks the avb., but a little overboard. Well crafted, and a job well done on a damp Victoria night.

From Brewery Creek. Poured a dark, reddish copper body beneath a creamy beige head. Aroma was hugely hopped, almost too much so. Lots of malt in the taste, but offset by the hopping. High ABV was evident. A very nice beer.

A dull fuzzy reddish tinged brown colored ale. Big off light brown head frothy in texture rises above. Decent hang time on this one. Light lacing cap s left behind. Fruit evident in the nose. Medium to heavy bodied. Creaminess is evident. Alcohol is evident. Active nonoffensive carbonation. Earthy, fruit and toffee all come to mind in the tasting. A nice, very nice old ale.

Wonderfully brutal hops with a good hit of alcohol, nice toasty grapefruit flavor with a bit of sweetness to round out the flavors. This brew is not often found in my area, but if you come across it you might just want to give it a try. Could only chance one bottle otherwise I would have fallen asleep during the movie that I am watching!

Not really sure what an old ale is, I picked it up thinking that it was a Belgian style tripel. It comes out of the bottle as a very brown beer with a thin tan head that l;asts a while. The aroma is roasted malt, nuts, and coffee. The flavour is definitely nutty with the malt come through quite well.

Bottle: Poured a murky brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and great lacing. Aroma of dry fruit with some nice sweet malt. Taste is also dominated by sweet barley malt with nice notes of dry fruit, some sugar and some lightly fruity ester. Body is quite full with some great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well done with enough complexities but also keeping a nice drinkable profile.

Strong and very drinkable! Hint of bananas? Very smooth, not over bitter although brewer claims 100 ibu? did not kill me the next day!!! Worth the $, try it.

22 oz. bomber poured into a pint glass. Unfortunately, I have no idea of the bottling date. The pour is a medium-dark brown with a tall tan head. Retention is decent, and there is some lacing. The nose is definitely sweet with roasted malts, but there are hints of some cinnamon and dark fruits. Also present is a hint at the alcoholic content. I have to wonder about the age of my bottle since bitterness during the sip is low. Instead, my bottle seems to be a very malty with the roasted malts, cinnamon, dark fruits and a toffee/molasses taste. There is definitely a dry finish. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. Drinkability is okay, but I think one bottle is enough for me. I am almost certain that I have an old bottle. If I buy another of this, I will have to compare that taste session with this one. As it is, if this is the aged version, I like it.

A very interesting and complex beer I found at La Bodega in Riverside. Thick body and great malt taste with just enough hoppiness to balance it out. Everything from chocolate to roast malt to dark fruit to toffee to coffee were found in this. like some crazy wine!
