Raised in an almost cruel state of total darkness, our Black Strap Stout delights in being the complete opposite of a light beer. This one has full-flavor, full-depth, full-life, and of course full-carb. See it brought squinting into the light for the very first time in your glass. The humane thing to do is finish the pint before the protective head burns off.

Comes out of the tap a deep sable, just a red tomcat whisker above black; tan head is fairly thick but not too persistent. Aroma is strong, smoky, malty, with a dominating overtone of molasses - fairly sweet but not cloying. Flavor is rich and smoky with a strong molasses tone, somewhat but not too sweet. Texture is quite thick and not very fizzy. A good beer to finish a drinking session.

One of the nicest pours I’ve seen. On tap at the Bocktown Bar in the Robinson Township shopping complex. Thick and very dark black with a dark brown head. The head looks like whipped creamy chocolate pudding. Smell is an intense roasted wood aroma. I’ve never seen a head like this. Is there such a thing as roasted imperial stout? Very strong burnt flavor like it was aged in burnt wooden barrels. I was thinking this was an imperial stout because I don’t particularly care for imp stouts but it is only a ’stout’. Perhaps a little too much for me. Long lasting burnt bitter malty/hoppy flavor finish. If you like imperial stouts, you better seek this out.

My first review of a beer from this Pittsburgh microbrewery. Black Strap Stout has a thick dark brown head leaving lots of creamy suds floating on top of the extremely dark black body. This stout resembles tar. Aromatic hops waft from the pint. A mild hop character with a bite to the finish exists on the buds. Hops override the dark roasty malt, burnt coffee and sweet chocolate notes. Black Strap is puckery and semi-piney with a very chocolate milkshake-like feel to it. It reminds me of Troegs Oatmeal Stout in appearance, but not in taste.

East End Black Strap Stout poured a dark black body with almost no head. The taste was less than desirable. It had a very strange aftertaste that really killed the initial stout taste. As a stout lover, I found this hard to drink.
