A Perry-Pils hybrid, Piercing Pils is a Czech Style Pilsner brewed with a White Pear Tea and Pear juice. Both the juice and the tea were added in the kettle during the whirlpool (after the boil) for maximum flavor and aroma contribution. The Pear fruit complexity pierces right through the spicy Czech Saaz hops beautifully, adding a gentle acidity to this pale lager that makes for a crisp refreshing sipper. Amarillo hops add nuanced citrus notes that meld perfectly with the fruit.

A beautiful looking beer in the glass, bubbles race up from the bottom throughout the entire beer. Clear, dark golden body topped by a thick white head that left very nice lace. The aroma I'd slightly sour hops, pear and grass. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very drinkable. Flavor is grassy hops, sweet pear (which does not dominate as much as the label implies) and ends very clean.

Pours clear yellow with a thick eggshell head that has some staying power. Crisp aroma presents fresh malt and pear tones, nothing special but appetizing. Flavor delivers crisp malty and firm near-perry notes, rather like a pils mixed with pear cider. Resiny, slightly bitter hops provide a nice undertone. Mouthfeel features average body and fizz, and it goes down nicely. Let it pierce you.

I picked a 4-pack of this beer up from Anthony's on 32'nd Street in Ocean City, Maryland. This was a REALLY nice summer beer. The base is a pilsner-style, however, there are mild pear notes. The bottle states that the beer is brewed with pear juice - I was expecting an overly sweet beer - but the pear presence was subtle and quite nice. Good beer!

Light straw pour, ample head and lacing. Sweet pear and apple nose and taste, light and pleasant, nicely offset with light grassy hops, tasty and refreshing. Another easy to drink brew.

Pours a semi cloudy light yellow with a one finger off white head that lofts a bit. Decent amount of carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma is a pleasant combination of malts and lemon. The taste is apparent to what the were trying to do. Hint's of the pear, lemon, slight metal, and pilsner malts. Very candy like ending. This is very good.

I saw "pear" and got my hopes up. I love pears. I do not love pilsners. This is a sad tale. Clear gold beer with an almost greenish tint, tall foamy head becoming a rocky dense cap. Tart and sweet aroma makes me think it is a pear pils, with a yeasty bitterness on the fruit. The flavor is mostly that yeasty bitterness, biting then mellowing then lingering. Grapey and yeasty-- I can't pick out any pear. And I do so love pear. Tons of fine lace down the glass, prickly and a bit sticky, heavy.

Pours a semi hazy burnt yellow with an inch of head. Grassy aromas with some pear, herbal and floral hops. The taste is sour bread with grassy and herbal hops and a good deal of malts. The pear comes out as it warmed. The pear flavor seems to be a nice compliment to this style without being too noticeable. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. Overall, pretty good twist on the style.

I'd think of this as a pilsner first, that just happens to have some pear juice. Pretty classic pils aroma and taste at first, a little surprising. Good n crisp, noble hop presence. Only as it warmed did the pear become obvious. Cold, it was just a hint except for in the aftertaste. A nice change, and a cheaper one, from all the expensive arse ancient honey based brews.

Golden sunshine in color with a very big frothy textured, white head rising above. There's great hang time on the head. Lots of bubbles in the body. Great hang time on the head. Impressive lacing of film and thinner ringlet. Grainy, earthy profile with a strong hint of tea and some pears. Palate cleansing.
