Strong, smoky aroma has tones of chocolate and molasses with coffee, nutty and licorice hints. It pours a dark chocolate brown with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled light tan head. Semi-sweet chocolate dominates the smoky flavor, which includes molasses, caramel and nutty hints. Texture is quite smooth and pleasing, not very fizzy but still good. Look for this one!

blackened red appearance. a nice color beige head. Aroma has a sweetness of caramel sugar, chocolate, and prunes. Not really 'imperial' in flavor, but a hearty stout. Smooth, smooth, smooth, and creamy, good body...... There are tastes of raisins, espresso...a sweet stout with a bit of bitter balance through the end. Smooth drink, im comfortable with this

After seeing the average score, I glanced to see how others have rated it. While I agree that everyone has their own opinion, methinks this hasn't gotten the respect it deserves. But to be honest, the (second to) last review was from June and this just now came available this year, so maybe last years wasn't as good. This is the first year I've had this beer. Pours a really dark brown - not quite black - with a very nice head that leaves no lacing. The scent is definately of coffee. Flavor is great; coffee, chocolate... The hops are subtle, but present. Well balanced, this is. Palate is rich and bitter with a nice mineral feel to it. Overall this is a great Stout, IMO. It's not as intense as a lot of the Imperial Stouts, but I think too many in the market go too far to get noticed. Dick's just lays it on the line as if to say "this is what it should be."

This really tastes more like a really big brown ale than an imperial stout. Dark brown, but far from opaque, the head is a very pale khaki that is thin and fades quickly. The aroma is sweet tea and caramel. The flavor is fairly malty, but is heavy on the caramel and a bit of chocolate more than roasts. On the end there is a metallic bitterness from the hops that isn't really very pleasant.

Pitch black body pours with no head. Aroma is nice, roasted malt and coffee. Body is thin and lacking. Seems more porterish. Strange burnt bitterness.

This beer pours a brownish blackish color, with some definite red marks in the light. Some light tanned head, but very quickly dissipating with a hint of lacing left throughout the course of the drinking. The aroma is strangely weak for an imperial stout with chocolate, roasted malts, and nuts being predominant. The flavor is medium to full bodied, with chocolate developing and lasting for a while on the tongue. Some sticky mouthfeel. Coffee and molasses flavors, some hints of hop cones and nuts...earthy in the finish. I cant argue with the flavor, but it lacks the look and the imperial punch I look for with a dark beer. Its solid, but lacking greatness. Heavily carbonated as well for an impy...enjoyable nonetheless.

Black color, medium/large head. Heavily roasted malts, medium hops. Slightly sweet, nice malts. Finish is smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Starts off good w/ a big roasty nose when I opened the bottle. Then it goes a bit downhill. The body is a bit thin, and the flavor is burnt roasty w/ a saltiness to it. No coffee, toffee, chocolate or any of the usual imperial stout suspect flavors. It's just not big enough

This imperial stout pours with a dark brown to black body topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. the aroma is sweet and malty with candy sugar notes and a slight touch of roastiness. The flavor is slightly sweet yet mostly bitter, roasty and malty with a slight coffee note. Full bodied, relatively smooth and slightly dry.
