Aged and sequestered in select oak casks. The result – a contemplatively brewed quad created in homage to all those who doubted the original. This unrepentant rendition is definitively Not The Stoic. Malt: Pilsner, Special B, Crystal Rye Hops: Czech Saaz Other: Pomegranate Molasses Barrel-Aging: 11 months in 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Rye Whiskey Barrels

WOW! Straight 8's and a HUGE thank you to SlowRunner77 for the bottle. I loved this and split it with my neighbor. A nice pseudo-quad. Big lots of fruit flavors. Very complex. Beer has outstanding weight and it leaves legs on the glass. Smells of barrel aging, taste tracks the aroma in that regard. Leaves the belly very warm, but the beer itself is not hot. Loved it.

Hmmmm. Interesting reboot of what I thought was an utterly FANTASTIC brew in The Stoic. Not a traditional quad, by any stretch...but I liked it far better than most quads. This one is pretty damn tasty too, though a step or two back in the awesomeness department and complexity. Pours darker, more like traditional quads, and smells more traditional as well, though sweeter. The rye whiskey and wine have a harder time coming through this one. The beer is around the same abv, but smells and tastes FAR stronger than it's predecesor. Big fruity zesty bready yeast, and pomegranate. The fruit adds flavor, but not depth. Sweet warming in finish is nice, but I can't help compare. It's 0.3 points lower and $4 more than The Stoic, so the bottles I have now will be all :(

On tap @ 10 East (Deschutes Tap Takeover)
Aroma - cherry juice, tobacco leaves, dark fruit with port like notes
Appearance - mahogany brown body, ruby edges, 1-finger beige head, no retention
Mouthfeel - medium body, light/medium carbonation, silky
Flavor - very vinous, oaky, sweetish and acetone-y. Complex would be a good description but the sweetness is a bit much at times.
Overall - an excellent beer and happy I got to try it on tap. Another winner for Deschutes.
