Big review night with the local Brew Crew: 18 different beers with barbecue, delicious desserts, and good company. Not relevant to the flavor, but the label on this has been updated and I think it looks better now. Poured without a head, clear and deep gold. Rich grapefruit and candy sugar aroma, some alcohol in there. Smooth, the hop bitterness isn't too big in IPA terms, sweet and rich. Velvety, not too bubbly, heavy. I want to taste this one again when my tongue's fresher.

Picked this one up as a single. Singles at my favorite place are all individually priced and this one was one of the cheaper singles($1.90) While others of the 100 and 99pt beers usually run between $2.50-$6.00 I thought I would give it a go. And it was worth it. This is a wonderful ipa. I rugged hint of chocolate at the beginning followed by a complex taste of carmels, malts, and hops, with a sweet malt finish. Nice head. My only disappointment is that this is not in pints. Oh well open two bottles at a time.

Reviewed with the disadvantage of being at the wife's HS reunion, at a bar, without a glass. Good nose,, grapefruit and malt, appearance well... it was in a bottle what can I say! (I'll guess an 8). Mouth was medium, well carbonated, and a bit chewy. Flavor, big ole grapefruit but with a very solid malt backbone (see aracauna's reveiew) a very solid IPA flavor, alcohol strong but very well masked. Really good effort here from a small brewery I never heard of before.

eh. a drinkable session ipa, but the somewhat vibrant aroma misled us into thinking the flavor would be more than it was. well balanced with slight citrus hops and a little bitterness.

I didn't find this IPA as hop forward as the caswe suggested, which is alright as there was a great balance between the malty backbone and the muted citrus hops. Very easy to drink!

Bottled@Monks Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm. Hazy orange colour, small beige head. Aroma is hops, fruits, wood, yeast and some mild notes of grass. Flavour is quite much the same in a rather balanced way. Wellbalanced, refreshing and pleasant. Wooden and fruity notes in the aftertaste.

Good IPA, hovering on the mild side and that’s just fine with me. Aroma of lemon, grapefruit, biscuits, and evergreen. Pours a beautiful burnt copper color with a frothy, light tan head and bountiful lacing. Medium bodied, dry, and contains a good bitterness. Assertive fruity flavor from the flowery hops. Biscuit and caramel with some spruce and pine.

Pours out in a clear deep amber colour with a disappearing white foam. Dense aroma od grapefruit and resin with compact undertones of caramel and apricots. Medium-bodied with clean notes of caramel and resin with notes of grapefruit. Malty undertones of fudge and oranges. Long medium-bitter finsih of grass, mint and grapefruit with dense malty undertones of fudge and nuts.

On tap at Zorbaz, Detroit Lakes. Pours a very murky copper (so much sediment, it looks dirty) with a thin white head. Aroma is all hops--tons of grapefruit and pine with just a hint of malt sweetness creeping in. Taste is, as expected, bitter. Very solid, tasty IPA.

Pours a cloudy, reddish brown pour with a foamy tan head with lots of floaties, which I am assuming is yeast. Sweet smelling with orange, lemon and dank, earthy hop notes. Sweet and resiny up front, with orange oil, lychee, a semi-sweet breadiness, and earthy hop flavors on the pallete. Ends with a creamy, toffee malt backbone with a dry and bitter finish. The flavors intensify as it warms a bit. An impressive IPA. Dark Horse is truly a good name for this brewery, it's a regional powerhouse that needs more recognition. I have yet to have one of their beers that wasn't outstanding. Recommended.
