Wood Aged Farmhouse Ale brewed with Malted Barley, Wheat, Oats, Rye and Spelt. This beer is a recreation of early 20th century farmhouse provision ales. Surette was fermented and aged in our large oak foeder with Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus naturally present. The secondary fermentation with these critters creates complex aromas and a slight tartness.

Feb. 2015: 375 ml bottle, as Crooked Stave Surette Provision Saison Artisan Ale Aged in Oak Barrels, 2014 batch 13. ABV is 6.2%. At Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Slightly hazy golden colour, low white head of poor retention. Sourish aroma, strong notes of farmhouse, lemons, white wine vinegar and oak. Very sour and lemony flavour, medium dry, nearly like an unblended lambic, some oaky notes. Not a saison by any stretch of the mind.

Pours slightly hazy amber with a thick and frothy ivory head. Malty aroma has a strong yeasty and bready overtone. Flavor is a pleasant surprise, fruity - mainly pear and sour apple - and malty, with bready yeast as an undertone. Definitely one to sip and savor, not gulp. Texture is firm if not too fizzy. You’re Surette to enjoy it.

Wish lister. Cloudy orange. musty aroma. With extended oak aging critters and all, this really blurs the line between a Saison/farmhouse ale/wild ale. Heavy oak present in the aroma and especially flavor. Full flavored and bodied for 6% beer. Tart and fruity, with a dry peppery finish. I like this very much. 4.25 if I could.

Wow! 375 poured into a tulip, beautiful hazed orange with spritzy carbonation but no head. Complex earthy aromas of barnyard, hay, and a touch of lemon. Very dry yet acidic mouthfeel. Tart nuances with a hint of pepper and oak. This is very, very nice.

750ml bottle - batch 7/11, bottle 355/1599. Pours a hazy golden amber with a big fizzy rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is interesting - soft brett, wood, floral notes and some fruits.

The flavor is sweet tangy fruits with some earthy kind of funky brett that is a little acidic. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I like what the brett barrel adds to the saison. One of my favorites from Crooked Stave.
