12 oz bottle poured medium amber with some deep red highlights and tan head. Strong aroma of spice like coriander also plums raisins, apples and behind all of that there seems to be sweet caramelized maltiness. Lots of carbonation allows the raisin, pepper, a vaguely citrus lemon note, cinnamon and coriander to come right to the surface. Just beyond midway sweet plums, dates and cherry fruitiness take over with a slight caramel undercurrent. Very enjoyable brew.

I’m not good enough for this beer. I hesitate to rate it. On tap at the Vintage Estates, thanks Nuts. Very nice aroma, perhaps some alky strong intent on the olfactory.Slightly dark, but certainly not dark brown or black. Some haze is present. Nice lacing. Strongish wine or whisky flavors. Mild carbonation tickles the middle of the tongue.. Alky flavors not well hidden in this belgie brew, they intensify during the session. Odd spicey sensations trace each sip. Finish is whisky laced beer. Does not do homage to their abbey brown.

From a 75cl bottle (King’s Blue). Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Caramelly aroma with dark fruits, malt and a hint of alcohol. Massive sweetness with caramel flavour and just a hint of bitterness in the finish. Quite pleasant, but too much on the sweet side for my taste.

Medium size tan head, good retention and lace. Mahogeny colored. Spicey nose, citrusy, minty. Medium body. Malty brown ale flavor with a good spice addition. A very tasty brew. Finish is medium dry.

Pored our a deep amber/red pour, pale creamy head, thinning quickly.Aurora is of bread, nuts and bananas.Taste is of light molasses, black coffee bitterness on the back.Well balanced and incredibly drinkable for a Christmas ale.

Dark ruby, brown almost, with huge lacing, lasting light brown foam head. Aroma is muffled by foam head, but clearly malty caramel with some light smokey notes. Taste some wheat little spicy, but mainly malty caramel again. (Velp 201405)

A friend gave this to me. It poured a medium brown with a thick white head heavy lacing and good legs. The aroma was of malt with hints of spice. Mild carbonation yielded mild mouth feel. The balance was outstanding. Even at 8% the alcohol balanced well. My wife and I paired this with a roast of beef and veg using the ale as the starch. It was amazing.

It pours a very dark-brown and burnt-orange with a thick and foamy light-tan head and copious lacing. A slightly rich aroma of roasted malts, raisins, coffee, chocolate, prunes, oranges and citrus, and spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, and rich. Flavors of roasted malts, hops, coffee, chocolate, raisins and prunes, orange and citrus, nuttiness, root beer and cola, vanilla, and zest and spiciness. Superb!

This is as good as the regular pater with fuller body and more flavor. Very plummy, as expected. Great fruity yeasty aroma, jumps out of the glass. I would rather drink this than a lot of other belgians, it should not be reserved for just Christmas. It's what I always imagined Christmas would taste like.
