Poured out of 12.7 oz bottle. The brew that spilled out into my glass was very black and had a dark brown head with brown streaks and didn’t last more than a minute. The aroma was medium strength and seemed to consist of chocolate, molasses, toffee, burnt malts, a bit of dark fruit and some coffee. Wow, first sip was a medley of rich roasted maltiness. The roasted and burnt malts rolled into sweeter molasses and chocolate. As the taste winds down the burnt black patent type malts rise up again and are joined by a bit of coffee right into the aftertaste. As I sponged up more of this brew I noticed both some dark fruitiness and a touch of smoke.

Black, light brown lasting, lacing foam head. Not too strong aroma, fruity tones present. Light bitter coffee taste, pretty nice. Should buy again. (Velp 201504)

375 ml capped bottle. Poured in a half pint glass an unfiltered and opaque dark-dark-brown, almost black, coloured E S with a one finger fine, creamy, dense and tan foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Low carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, roasted coffee beans, vegetables, green olives, notes of black chocolate. The flavour is roasted and burnt malts, roasted coffee beans, ashes, dark bitter chocolate and spicy with a touch of licorice. The mouthfeel is crispy, fulled, thick and bitter, sugary notes. The texture is oily. This medium to full bodied E S has a dry bitter finish. An Aussie Stout with character.

From my notes: Decent, way too carbonated for my liking. Especially for a stout... hello? Too cold, like all beer in Utah. Looks great in the glass, but I didn't like how dry and thin it was.

Pours a rich dark chocolate brown with a small bubbly beige head. The aroma is chocolate, sweet aromas, roasted malts, hint of coffee bean, alcohol. The taste has sharp flavours of chocolate and roasted malts with a bit of a milkiness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Stouts and porters are not my favorite style of beers.

I wanted to try something from Australia besides Fosters. A pretty good stout. Reminded of another foreign stout I tried from not too far from there (Lion Stout). Seemed more bitter though instead of a sweet stout, perhaps a bit on the dryer side. I thought was better quality than guiness. I would try this again, especially if traveling down under, but wouldn't really go out of my way here in the states with so many others around.

In appearance, this one is the best. Jet black, motor oil black. A big creamy textured, tan head rises robustly above. It stays around for awhile settling eventually into a thick ringlet atop the body and a thick film aside the glass. In appearance, this how a beer should look. The nose is light malt. I’d want a little bolder aroma. The body is thick and creamy, just like I want it. The taste is a little too singular. Good roasted malt. I’d want some bittering chocolate, or coffee thrown in. Overall my favorite genre, so I’m more critical than not.

Very opaque, very dark brown almost black color with only the faintest ruby highlights around the bottom. Chocolate milk shake colored head that had insubstantial retention and lacing. Settled to a thin ring and some sediment was clingling to the sides. Deep, dark, roasted malt in the smell. Coffee and a smokey aroma. Some alcohol coming out in the nose also. Even some licorice. Even got a touch of what I found to be vanilla. The taste was again the dark, roasted, smokey malt. Some chocolate makes an appearance. The coffee emerges very nicely. A presence of bitterness shows itself at the end. Some of the alcohol warmth does come through at the end. Medium to full mouthfeel. Smooth and dry and does a very nice job of coating the tongue and throat. Kind of chewy. I have had better Stouts, but this is not bad at all. This would be nice on those real cold Winter days and evenings. I could have a few of these, but not too many. It is warming, which is a plus, but could probably only handle this for one evening. The flavors are not as balanced as I would have liked.

Pours an opaque coffee brown with a nice, thick, fairly persistent tan head - couldn't look more appetizing. Aroma is rich, smoky, oily, having tones of molasses and miso. Flavor is smoky and has tones of quality roast coffee and brown sugar. Texture is tingly and fizzy, sometimes seeming just a mite watery but still good. Worthy.

This brew i found to be a little on the dry side. It was nice and the mouthful was crunchy. Was a nice dark color and the scent was that of a roasted licorce and nicely balanced malts. It was very well done but i cant say i would go out of my way to try this particular brew. It was clean and very well done. I realize that extra stout is considered to be dry but not like this one. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!
