The beer pours a solid black colour with a creamy brown head, about a half inch thick, that lasts a while. The aroma is bourbon, and lots of it, burnt wood, some roasted malt, vanilla, and coffee. The mouthfeel is full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is similar to the aroma….lots of burnt wood and bourbon up front, followed by notes of roasted malt, coffee. Not a fan of barrel aged beers, and in this case, the barrel takes over the beer.
In the end, this ended up being a drainpour. It looked great, the mouthfeel was great, but the overpowering bourbon aroma and flavour was just too much. I like bourbon, and I like beer, but they don't go together in my opinion. -

Picked up at LCBO packaged with an art print. Pours a large thick frothy and bubbly brown head and has a dark brown appearance. Thick dirty lacing. Lively carbonation. Aromas are roasted malt, nutty, earthy hops, notes of vanilla and coffee. Flavours are also strong roasted malts and nutty. Has a bit of earthy and resin notes as well as dried fruits with hints of vanilla. Barrel aged aspect is quite noticeable with the bourbon notes giving it a bit of a boozy and woodsy finish. Sweet and slightly bitter. Slick and oily mouthfeel. Smooth and easy to drink, making it somewhat of a dangerous drink even though alcohol level is fairly apparent. Quite a flavourful porter. Great stuff!

Black pour with a tan head. Not bad retention for 11.5% abv. Aroma is bourbon and rusty wood, if that's possible. Bourbon is prominent in the long lasting flavour. Rich dark chocolate, sweet malt, vanilla, dark fruits, oak and some tart acidic background. Almost full mouthfeel. Good night cap.

After having the Great Lakes Brewery 30th Anniversary Bourbon Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout, let have this barrel-aged blackness. Yes, black coloured with a deep coffee-frothy head, decent stay and patchy lacing. The sweetness of the Bourbon is in the aromas with the dark fruits, so pretty rich in the nose. Mild vanilla covering all of these in the taste. Some light wood in the finish. Nice and warming for winter nights, but a little rich for my likings compared to the other one from GLB.
