For the first time ever, we’re collaborating with another brewery on a beer in our numbered IPA series! For lucky No. 13 we got together with Aslin Beer Co. to make a classic double IPA. Hopped with Strata, Zappa, and Comet, these unique and sought after strains lend the beer a deliciously dank passionfruit forward character with underlying notes of mango and citrus.

A collaboration beer. The beer pours a hazed light gold with a generous off-white head which lasts a few minutes. The aromas are grass, tart fruit, yeast, and herbal hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grass, light citrus, and yeast. I’m not tasting a whole lot in this beer, it is a rather flat IPA. Not very grainy, and not very hoppy. -

Tall can from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy white head that dissipates to a small foamy coating, leaves some thick sticky lacing behind. Has a hazy orangey appearance. Aromas of tropical fruit, citrus and floral hop notes, a bit of mango and tangerines. Flavours are every bit as aromas, lots of tropical fruits, some mangos, pineapple, citrus orangey notes. Smooth and slick mouthfeel.

Can that pours a hazy golden colour with a slight yellowish-white frothy cap, decent retention and some light foamy lacing. Berry nose from the Strata hops with the citrus background and grassiness. Alcohol is also felt in the aromas. The taste is milder than expected, but the Zappa hops add some nice spiciness, zap, as well as tropical fruit notes. It is fairly bitter in the middle with a dry-alcohol finish. Mild citrus lingers. Interesting to try these hops and see what they give us differently. Just not a fan of the flavours so much.
