Brown Angel was designed to have three distinct levels: a dark brown backbone with notes of chocolate and coffee resulting from the use of 1500 pounds of Maris Otter malt, aggressive American hops (Amarillo and Columbus) provide bitterness and some citrus, while a more delicate floral finish is achieved from the use of the classic English hop, East Kent Goldings. This is NOT your old school brown, but rather a sexy American interpretation. At 40IBUs and 7% Alcohol it goes down sneaky fast.

Pretty good ale and it went well with a cigar. The taste is just a little bitter but not so bad that it will keep me from trying another bottle. Think I will share the next bottle with a friend to see what he thinks.

Pours a hazy dark brown with a light beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Spots of lacing left behind. Sweet malt aroma that's slight roasty with a chocolate presence. There's also some caramel, toffee, toast and hazelnut. In addition there is a strong floral hop character. Slightly earthy and resinous with pine, buds and grass.

I don't like Brown ale, but I thought maybe a double would make it better, no dice. This has a cardboard mouthfeel with a bitter, tinny flavor that has no balance. I really like clown shoes but this has no place in their line up.

Dark bown color with light brown foam head, lacing. Aroma is bitter hops with caramel and coffee tones. Taste is bitter coffee. Aftertaste is long lasting bitter cold coffee. (Houston 201301)

Pretty nice robust hoppy brown. Looks like your average brown ale but there's more chocolate, coffee, and bitterness than usual. The citrusy American hops are a little odd, but it kinda works.

last of the lineup for me to try, not on purpose .. . pours a light molasses brown .. pretty good foam, lacing is quite good too .. . molasses and brown sharpie .. . muddled and kinda the weakest of the CS lineup .. . . Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. Woody aroma has hints of caramel and pear. It pours a dark chocolaty brown that lets daylight in only at the very edges. The sample I got fizzed like crazy, so be careful! Light tan head is quite thick, fine-bubbled, and persistent. Crisp flavor has caramel, malty and woody notes plus hints of fruit and yeast. Firm-bodied texture has a lively fizz that leaves a satisfying and tasty finish.

Brown Angel pours a hazy brown with red tinged body, not much head despite a vigorous pour, very little lace as well. aromas of some citrus hops with the roasted malts taking a back seat. The flavor is much the same as the aroma, it ends with a nice roasted nutty and slightly bitter finish. Its a bit different from a regular brown with the hops playing such a assertive role, and i do prefer a traditional brown ale, however it is still a nice beer.

2nd sample from Clown Shoes...they both were solid. Liked this one better than the Imperial Amber. Near perfect strength, and well balanced. Medium brown appearance with a tan creamy head. Nice bundle of flavors too. I drank this during a fantasy football draft, so couldn't enjoy 100% with all the stuff going on....so am going to have to get this again, as it is that good and worth the price.

A beautiful mahogany colored beer with a big frothy, light beige head rising above. There's great hang time on this one. It settles eventually into a thick ringlet and low lying film. The nose is bready and nutty. Roasted malt dominates the tasting. Some nut. Really pretty good. All that in a syrupy thick body.
