The "Pursuit" is a big beer. It lacks nothing. A rich malty sweet start is balanced beautifully with the massive hop flavor that quickly tells you that you are not drinking anything ordinary. As this beer goes down, a warming sensation is created in your belly, a nice treat on a cold winter evening. The alcohol level is high so take good care when partaking in this wonderful specialty brew.

Poured a copper color with nice fluffy head and constant lacing. Aroma was very nice tons of grapfruit little banana as well. Flavor was lots of good grapefruit and carmel malts little alcohol in the finish. Solid beer.

I don't know much from Clay Pipe Brewing, even though it is right up the road from my home here in Maryland. So when I saw a single of the Clay Pipe Pursuit of Happiness, I decided to pick one up and support the local guys.

Upon pouring it out into my pint glass, I was greeted by a dark amber colored beer with a minimal head. The aroma of citrus and hops overflowed from the glass though.

When drinking this beer, it leaves a very nice, bitter mouthfeel. Doulos31 had mentioned a grapefruit aroma and I tend to agree that it has a hint of grapefruit in the taste. The hops are strong and very noticeable. I can definitely see why this is labeled a "winter warmer" on the bottle. After my first sip, my throat is hot. It's almost like the sensation you get when drinking a shot of liquor. Most definitely this is due to the high alcohol content.

This is an interesting beer though. I like it, but I'm not sure how often I would drink this brew other than on the odd occasion. I might do as AleGael has suggested and park away some bottles for tasting later on down the road. I do recommend Clay Pipe changes the name of this beer to Pursuit of Hoppiness". :)

Copper/honey color with nice pillowy head and good lacing. Strong grapefruit aroma. Thick oily grapefruit flavor with some caramel and teabags. Nice big beer at a nice pricetag. Good job!

Pours a medium amber with a weird suspended particular haze and a thin off white head. Aroma is older citrus hops, orange peel, tea and floral, with a straightforward crystal malt character and an easy non-distinct finish. Doesn't seem to be 8.25% at all.

Bought 3 cases of this and have enjoyed the changes over the course of a year. Initially had very pronounced aroma hops and an appropriate level of bitterness for a strong beer. A good balance of malt and hops with a complex layering of flavors. Over time the aroma hops have receded but the beer's complexity seems to have increased. Best not to have this too cold or you'll miss out on the subtlety of the flavors.

Poured nice; only a moderate head and minimal lacing. Aroma not significant. Not very compelling flavor; very metallic taste. For a "winter warmer" beer, I would expect more maltiness.... Not too impressive.

Me likey. Looks like a beer. Tastes like a beer, too. Light fruit noticable along with a decent hoppy twang. This tastes a lot like another brew...wish I could figure out which one.

This beer was reccomended to me by the liquor store salesman. Its brewed in Maryland so I had to give it a try. Copper in color with a medium head. The aroma and taste seem familiar but I can't figure out why. Not a bad beer, but I probably wouldn't have it again

2002... Poured a lightly hazy, caramel color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of gingerbread, spice, some oxidized sherry, caramel malt, some earthiness, and banana. Taste of allspice, lots of caramel malt, faint citrus fruits, a hoppiness which has really mellowed, and some peppery alcohol in the finish. Very malty, in comparison to what others have said.
