AN I.P.A. FOR LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HOPPINESS You've made a discovery - a well-hopped IPA inspired by the revolutionaries of Cincinnati's Northern Liberties. North of Liberty St. and beyond the reach of municipal law, the area was known for tolerance of beliefs and behaviors, which were shunned in Cincinnati proper prior to 1849. Moerlein Northern Liberties draws inspiration from these free-spirits with this hoppy, well-balanced, copper IPA in pursuit of Life, Liberty, and Hoppiness.

Nice copper color, from what I can see through a plastic cup. Can't really comment on aroma, my sense of smell is a little screwy at best. Good flavor; nice hoppy tang well-balance by a solid malt base. Most remarkable is the mouthfeel, very full and rich. First IPA brewed by Christian Moerlein; I'd say they got it right, from the get-go!

pours slightly cloudy, golden amber with small fizzy head with very little lacing and a flimsy film. The aroma is faint, but there is a toasty biscuit quality backed up with what seems like pine hops. The taste isn't too bad, but there is a faint metallic quality that keeps this from being rated higher. The biscuit and toasted malts with the piney, floral hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly dry.

A cloudy orange appearance with a white head. The aroma contains some citrus like oranges. The flavor is tame and malty not very good. None of the bite I expect in an IPA. Easy drinking and boring. I’m not a fan of this at all.

On tap @ Bearden Beer Market. Clear copper pour with a very tight but short head leaving ample lacing throughout. Light grapefruit and citrus hops aroma with a touch of pine, some malts. Taste is medium hop bittered, with citrus hops most predominant, somewhat earthy but weak compared to many other IPAs, lightly sweet to offset the hops, short linger. Decent IPA but there are many many better ones out there. This one is cheaper than most though.
