The newest addition to the Chatoe Rogue series is Pumpkin Patch Ale, a beer made using fresh pumpkins grown in a patch that borders Rogue’s 42 acre hop yard. The pumpkins are picked, loaded into Rogue’s farm truck, driven immediately 77 miles to our brewery in Newport, quickly roasted, and pitched into the brew kettle to create a batch of Pumpkin Patch Ale.

On tap @ Bent Elbow - taps a deep amber with a small rocky cap. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is herbaceous with REAL pumpkin notes over some floral hopping. Taste is of a very solid, medium bodied amber ale with caramel notes and creamy pumpkin melding with earthy-bittering hops - long finish with a hop kiss in the conclusion. An unpretentious pumpkin ale which does not assail the palate with an obnoxious pumkin pie spice overkill.

An amber colored brew with a three fingered off white head rising above. There's some hang time to the head. A thin ringlet is left behind. The profile is a light infusion of pumpkin and spices in a bready malt base. Well done. Light and refreshing

I have always been a big fan or Rogue and also look forward to the fall season and influx of obligatory pumpkin ales. Was glad to see an entry from Rogue! Reddish amber coloring and a nice white head. Hoppy, pumpkin aroma on the pour with notes of pumpkin pie spice. Glad to see the hops carry into the flavoring as most pumpkin brews are far too sweet as a rule. The bitterness does a great job balancing the sweetness of the pumpkin and spice.

Pours a foamy off-white creamy head and has a cloudy, dark amber/copper appearance with red hues. Weak lacing. Aromas of pumpkin spice can be found immediately, along with nutty malts and earthy hops. Flavours are similar with huge pumpkin, orange citrus, spices, mild hops and hints of cinnamon. Goes down pretty easy. Nice warming sensation on the palate and slight tnigling mouthfeel as well, fairly slick. Quite enjoyable.

First Chatoe Rogue single orange bottle at the LCBO. Production date: Oct. 4, 2012. Pours a hazy amber colour with an off-white cap, good retention and soapy lacing. Typical good pumpkin ale scent with the spices and amber ale base. Silky, oily mouthfeel. Nicely balanced spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg) with mild roasted malts and some pumpkin purée. Slightly sweet finish with maple notes. A nice companionship between farmers and fermenters. A good "Grow your own" project from Rogues. This is how a fresh pumpkin ale should be, without the fake stuff of most.

Pours deep mahogany/amber with orange hues and a white head that settles out to about 1 cm. Nose is pumpkin, a hint of cinnamon, nutmeg, some caramel, brown sugar, a little bit of raisin and fig and a bit more pumpkin. Most pumpkin ales smell mostly like spices but this one really smells like straight up pumpkin. The taste is more spiced than the smell. Nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, pumpkin, caramel malts, brown sugar, molasses and raisins. Overall a decent pumpkin ale, not over the top.

Pours a rusty muddled orange color with a nice fluffy white head and ample lacing. Roasted squash and pumpkin aromas, lightly but nicely spiced with nitmeg, cinnamon, a touch of clove, brown sugar, very earthy, not over-spiced. Taste is pleasant enough - requislite pumpkin pie spices, light and comforting, roasted pumpkin and squash, light brown sugar but not overly sweet. Actually a very nice lightly spiced pumpkin brew - just overpriced.

A latecomer to the LCBO Fall Release program (just started showing up in stores this week). The beer pours a slightly hazed ruby red colour with a generous tan head that lasted a minute or so. Aroma is pumpkin, malt, funk and spices. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is grainy malt, pumpkin, and spices. Well put together, but not outstanding. -

This is a robust full bodied pumpkin ale done very well, it's just hard to get past the $10.99 price tag on what ends up being a good (but not great) beer. Nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon malts and other spices. Smooth and tasty, just wish it were $5 cheaper.

750 ml bottle. Pours hazy ruby amber with a big rocky off white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is very nice pumpkin pie spices - a good blend of cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice.
The flavor is a bit subdued compared to the nose - some sweet caramel malts with very light spices (a little cinnamon) with a grassy bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, an OK pumpkin beer.
