Pasteurised bottle and can. Sold as John Bull Finest Bitter in the UK, and as John Bull Ale in Canada. Brewed in the heart of England using the finest Challenger and Fast Kent Goldings hops and natural mineral water from our own well. English Crystal malt is crushed, not ground, to bring out the tang of this traditional London-style ale and to give it its golden tawny colour.

From tap at John Bull’s Bar. Darker yellow, light ruby with good solid foam head. Aroma is small, good bitter with little sweetness. Taste is bittersweet, little sweet. Solid bitter aftertaste. (Moscow 201209)

On tap (keg) at Sherlock Holmes Pub, Aarhus. Copper coloured beer (the pub was not very well lighted, though), low creamy head. Predominantly malty aroma and flavour with notes of toffee, hints of hazelnuts. Moderate bitterness in the finish. Smooth and easy drinking.

Bottled (as Wells John Bull Finest Bitter). Reddish amber colour with mediumsized fluffy beige head. Aroma is sweet berries and fruits along with some caramel malts and mild hops. Flavour is sweet malts, some grassy and earthy hops as well as some slight metallic notes. Also mild licorice as it warms up.

John Bull's finest bitter ale is readily available in Southern Ontario........problem is.........it's not very bitter. The beer pours a clear red colour with a thick tan coloured head. The aroma was slightly nutty on top of a malt veneer. The flavour is some caramel malt, some sweet sugar flavour, and a tiny bitter finish.

The beer poured a beautiful translucent red colour with a 1/2 inch tan coloured head. The aroma is slightly sweet malt, dark fruits, and a little hops. The mouthfeel was thin to medium bodied, with mild carbonation. The flavour was a tad watery with some malted sense and a little hoppish feel. Very easy to drink -

Can: Poured a medium copper color ale with a nice big thick white foamy head with great retention and really good lacing. Aroma of semi-sweet malt with a nice English touch of English hops. Taste is nice mix between slightly sweet biscuit English malt with a nice subtle bitterness at the end with a nice touch of floral hops. I thought this was very well done and I am not sure why such low ratings for that one.

This is a very decent English bitter, even though i made the mistake of chilling it. Very nice brownish apperance with a bit of off white head. Good attack, with some spice and not alot of bitterness on the finish. Very smooth.

I'm with Chopz, the Well's brews all tend to be a good product without being all crazy. This one has a pretty copper body with head that is thick - very thick. Creamy, white and chunky, adds some awesome lace. The body is a bit thin but I find alot of these canned beers are. Quite the aroma, with caramel malts, spices and some earthiness. The taste presents itself as caramel malts that sticks to the palate, finishing with a pleasant hop and honey bitterness that is right on par for the style. A bit thin mouthfeel, but some active carbonation and finishing dry in the back of the mouth and wet on the tongue. A nice ale, great for sessions.

Crystal clear copper color with a fluffy-creamy off-white cap that lasts well, laces well. Decent nose: Caramel wrapped with a spicey earthiness...promising nose, no "off" smells and very tempting like a spiced musty-sweet biscuit. Sweet crystal and Caramel malty-toastiness up front balanced by spicey cinnamon-like tones, mid palate the hops turn a tad more aggressive...smooth balanced finish with a toasted honey-like aftertaste. Decent drinkable ale possibly a tad watery in body but this seems to be a trait of all commercial UK ales under 5%abv...much more then I was expecting from this brewer.

Charlres Wells combined 130 years of brewing, they used mineral water from their own well which gives this beer a high standard of quality...Great and pure copper color, decent head and lacing, hoppy nose inclination along with fruity flavor and as well that hoppy tang...Mineral water is quite present giving a distinctive mouthfeel on a solid malt base...A solid beer.
