If more people would try a goldie it would be the best selling beer on earth. Nuthin beats a Goldie

Pours nicely, good carbonation and nice pale yellow color with little head and no lace. The aroma leaves something to be desired, a bit skunky and reminescent of a pharmacy. The taste is much better than the aroma let on, pleasing malts, a little corn. The mouthfeel is light boided and lightly carbonated.

Yeah sure it's just a standard plain old gold lager, but I really like this. Certainly better than our domestic swill. If this is what passes for swill in Australia, well then I could be a very happy beer drinker there. This is one "cheapie" I could drink over and over again. Reminded me somewhat of Saigon, another cheap fave. I guess I have to re-cant me earlier statement about not being able to drink swill anymore!

Here in Southern Ontario, we have a wide variety of beers available from a variety of countries, and as part of my beer initiation, I have bought up every country I can find. Alphabetically, Australia came second, and that meant trying the Castlemaine XXXX Export Gold lager. This beer poured a very pale yellow out of the gan and the head was frothy and gone in a blink of an eye. The aroma was very grainy, the mouthfeel was extremely watery, and the taste was mildly putrid.

Comes in 6-pack at the LCBO, under the name Export Gold, and with 4.5% ABV. Pours a golden colour with an off-white creamy-fizz head that sticks around long enough, and leaves good lacing. The carbonation though is pretty low. Smells malty at first, but then turns onto an adjunct smell. Pretty light and watery mouthfeel. The taste is a mix of malt and other macrobrews chemical flavours. Was a good swill dranked from the can, but in a glass... really nothing special.

Can from the LCBO Pours a pale straw colored lager with a flaccid white cap that collases quickly...only light lacing. Aroma of sweet rice and cardboard Taste is bland and fizzy with light malts but mostly dextrine sweetness...clean finish, no off tastes just a boring adjunct bland lager with a watery weak character and an annoying dextrin sweet after taste. It pains me Dogfish head 60 Min. IPA was rejected this summer so we could enjoy bland adjuct lagers like this...with a far too pricey tag for what you get...I won't go back for more...this is the Miller Genuine Draft of OZ.

After drinking the beers of NSW stopping at a bar in Queensland that only had XXXX was quite a shock. This is a very average beer. I would say that it is average for the style and it would can be compared to Coors in tast and quality.

I tried this while in England. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the greatest either. The aroma and appearance were better than the actual taste. Maybe I was expecting more from this one.
