The first organically brewed beer in Britain. Golden Promise is named after Scotland's most famous malting barley - which is prized by brewers and distillers for producing a delightful rounded sweet malt flavour, reminiscent of Ovaltine. Organically grown aroma hops like First Gold are added to Caledonian's unique direct-fired open coppers to create this award winning beer. Certified by the Soil Association it is a 5-times winner at their Organic Food Awards and winner of a Silver medal at the 2005 International Brewing Awards. A rich golden colour, full of spicy aromas with dusty cinnamon and vanilla. A clean, dry crisp start, which is lively and quenching and a noticeable 'sherbet lemon' finish.

This is a good beer. Smells great has a wine aroma and somewhat of a wine taste. Clean off your tounge (not thick). Taste is like a mild hop wine. Clean very drinkable and light. Good flavor but not as flavorful as most.

Really about as boring a beer as you can get without going into the dreaded pale lager territory. The aroma light honey and pears. A clear golden body with a scant white scummy head. Flavor was mostly a bready/yeast combo with a very light fruit extract kind of flavor. Reminds me of many American organic blonde ales. Bleh

Sampled 11/14/08. This blond/golden ale pours a deep orange gold color from a 500ml bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is malty, bready and sweet. A medium bodied golden ale. The malts are bready and grainy, touch of cookie. The hops are earthy and floral. Good carbonation. A touch sweet, but there is just enough hops bitterness to balance. Kind of has that apple juice/tea thing going on here as well. Drinkable beer, but kind of boring. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bottled@SBWF2007. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is hops, malts and quite much grass. Flavour is grass, some hay and very dry. Not very exciting, more a basic and boring blond ale.

07.09.04 .5L bottle. Hazy, dirty bronze color with small, quickly fading, white head. Lots of visible carbonation. Aromas are malty and perfumey, bready. Dry body from front to back. Bitter, citrus, grassy. Finish is quick, herbal, honey, and astringent. Interesting, but not altogether great.

I just couldn't pick out an aroma with this beer. I couldn't smell anything. I reserved the two for the stinky beers and this wasn't offensive sooo. The beer has a thin-white head with a murky dark-orange color. Beer is a little on the thin side but still smooth. Flavor is hoppy and malty. Neat beer to try but nothing more.

One of my first of many organic British ales available nowadays. Is there some sort of Green Party there that's pushing for all these Organic beers? In other words, is this "Organic beer movement" the result of popular demand, or just riding the coat-tails of the latest fashion trend? I ask only because the end results are generally rather understated and staid (read: boring). Anyway..., while this is much more interesting than many "Organics", it still has enough issues to warrant only average marks, overall.
Musty, earthy, and not-unpleasant aroma, which goes hand-in-hand with the rather fruity/citric flavor profile. Really needs more hops IMO, since the mouthfeel takes a big hit from all the fruit and citrus and dryness. Something worth trying once, but I'm not sure when (or most importantly, why) I would want to buy this again.
I'm not entirely sure what this golden beer "promises", but it doesn't live up to it, IMO.

This pours a deep gold with very little head. Aroma had honey, slight hops and some flowers. This tastes like a very ligh pale ale. There are slight hops and a little citrus. Nothing offensive here, just not a lot of flavor.

Nice bright orange ale ,good sized frothy white head, attractive carbonation in the glass. Very nice malty aroma with a good dollop of hops making it seem rather lager like in scent. The taste is peasing and smooth, yet quite subdued and well balanced, malts being the predominate taste though. Very nice mouthfeel, exceptionally thick and smooth. I found thids very easy to drink, could do a few easilly. NOTE: the bottle i had was Co-Op Organic Premium Ale brewed byCaledonian brewery..it is the same as Golden Promise.

Cask at the Ipswich Beer Festival 2004, gravity dispense. I haven't had the bottled version yet, but it is reported to be somewhat different. ABV of the cask version is 4.4%. Golden colour. Flowery and candy-like aroma. Light bodied. Would benefit from a cooler serving temperature than was the case at the IBF. Flavour is moderately hoppy, would no doubt be refreshing if served cooler. As it was, it lacked some "freshness". Dry finish. BTW, it’s organic - "suitable for vegans" = no animals killed for the purpose of brewing this beer. Nice to know before you order your plate of bangers & mash.

Clear golden color with a nice sized head that dissapearded pretty quick. Mellow malt aroma that also had a bit of tin. Taste is a bit earthy and bitter. Tastes like some sort of macro crap. Not impressed at all.
