Caldera’s Rauch Ur Bock is a German-style lager billowing with intense cherry and beachwood smoke flavors. We used two different smoked grains in this lager, one cured with cherrywood and the other cured with beachwood. Warning, this beer has an intense smoked flavor.

Bottled@SBWF2010. Ambery brown colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is smoked wet wood, peat, some mild burnt bacon as well as mild freshly cut wooden notes. Flavour is smoke, mild tar, wood, some toffee and mild smoked wet wooden notes. Rather pleasantly balanced.

Sampled on 5/14/2011. This smoked lager pours a medium reddish amber color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing. The aroma is smoke, some caramel, some fruit and some more smoke. A medium to light bodied smoked lager. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. Decent carbonation. The smokiness is in every aspect of this beer. It is pervasive but not at any time overwhelming. There is some cherry flavor in here as well. Very nice smoked beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet and smoky.
