I'm not sure what to make of this beer. It's classed as a Dubbel, but to me it was more of a brown ale. There was a certain nuttiness in the aroma and the flavour that I associate more with brown ales. Decent, but not great.

500ml bottle
8.0% ABV
I tried this beer on December 22, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured an opaque reddish-brown with a long lasting thick, foamy tan coloured head. The aroma was sweet malt, spices, and a small amount of hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with a high level of carbonation. The flavour was spicy, with some sweet malt, dark fruits, and a bitter finish. -

Pale hazy brown appearance with a firm tan-coloured foam. Nutty and chocolately aroma with notes of fudge, dades and figs. Full-bodied and warming with notes of nuts, milky chocolate, mild banana and figs. Long malty finish with notes of crackers, yeast, fudge and toasted malts.

500 ml bottle, bought in Scarborough. Bottle conditioned. ABV is 8.0%. Copper coloured beer, large off-white head. Lovely aroma, vinous and fruity, also oaky and spicy notes. The flavour is VERY oaky and spicy, fairly sweet, with a fruity finish. Salty and bitter aftertaste. Powerful stuff!

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a medium reddish color ale with a big foamy head with great retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of malt with a hint of sweetness is weaker then expected but still enjoyable. Taste is comprised of medium caramel malt with some weak candi sugar and an interesting yeasty finish. Body is probably thinner then it should be with some great carbonation. I always thought that Burton beers had something Belgian about them so it is great to have the opportunity to drink this beer but it still seems something is missing for it to be a great dubel.

Bottle thans to Harry. Shared with Hyde. Pours deep mahogony with abundant being froth and matching belgian style lace. Plum and raisins fill the nose. Burnt malts accompany and are folowed by tin and sulfur. I’m told the water in Burton-on-Trent is sulfuric, and so this may be the reason. Sweet and fruity, very full malt flavours are nice, but are followed with a marked metallic and mineral presence. FInish is fruity, slightly thin. The tin gets in the way of this one. It’s good, but minus the tim, it would be very good. Thanks Harry!

Well, I let it settle for about a week; still came out a cloudy amber colour with a slim off-white head. Sour aroma. Sour, malty, woody and fruity flavour. I’m not sure I’ve had a representative sample, but I didn’t like this.
