Contract brewed by Sawdust City Brewing Company starting in 2017 The first of many beers that's dedicated to adding something new to the Ontario craft beer network. Darkwood has the characteristics of a classic Belgian Saison (fruity, spicy) with the addition of an understated fruited tartness. 450 lbs. of blackberry puree, shipped in from Oregon, was added to this Saison. The blackberries give Darkwood a beautifully unique reddish hue and is rounded out by a mild aromatic bitterness imparted by three citrus forward hops: Amarillo, Simcoe and Mosaic. At 4.3% abv. Darkwood maintains a full body while remaining sessionable. Suited perfectly on a hot sunny day.

Tall can from LCBO. Pours a medium size frothy pinkish head and has a slightly cloudy ruby coloured appearance. Decent sticky lacing. Lively carbonation. Aromas of berries, yeast, some subtle floral and herbal notes. Flavours are yeasty, lots of blackberries and the raspberry is also quite noticeable. Very mild tarty mouthfeel. Not too bad.

Amber-pink colour with some golden highlights. Pinkish-white huge head, frothy, thick, with great retention and foamy lacing. Unfiltered packed with tiny particles. Blackberry aromas over the Saison yeast. The mouthfeel is lightly tarty. The berries are also in the taste, but much milder. This is quite good for a light fruity Saison, but wish they make a 6-plus ABV version one day to be full flavourful.
