Not a big fan of spiced beer and I didn't change my mind after this sample. Average appearance. Nice anise aroma. Flavour is dominated by anise. Medium mouthfeel. Aftertaste long lasting anise. Negative review but still way better than Coors lite.

I usually get my brews from this brewery on the Quebec side, but this one I found at the LCBO. Quite an interesting beer. Pours an almost black colour with very minimal red highlights. The head is creamy, light brown, has great retention and leaves nice lacing. The nose has dark roasted malts, with some molasses and liquorice (anise). Quite herbal overall with some mild sourness. Pretty much the same for taste, with a little cocoa in the finish. The balance between these ingredients is pretty nice and different. Not one you could drink many in a row though.

341ml bottle pours a jet black ale in the glass. 2 finger tight sticky mocha colored cap which laces the glass walls. Lightly carbonated. Aroma is roasty-cocoa-herbal with anise undertone. Flavor is a more intense version of the aroma with rich coffee-cocoa flavors blending with the anise-licorice-wormwood-fennel tastes and the resinous hopping. Finish is long and liquid with some drying and bittering to a bitter roasty finish. Very well carried off flavored porter. The Anise compliments the coffee-cocoa malts yet was not over powering

The beer poured a solid black woth a this tan head. The aroma was overwhelmingly anise with roasted malt, coffee, and caramel all taking a back seat. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and creamy. The flavour was again roiasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate.....and anise. I'm not a huge licorice fan, so the power of the anise took away from the enjoyment of this beer, but anise aside, a solid effort. -

Mondial de la Bière 2009. On tap at the bewpub. Poured a magnificent dark colored ale with a small beige foamy head that had a good retention. The aroma is spicy, licorice overdominating, and coffeish. The flavour is sweet roasted malts with coffee tones, hint of mint leaves. A well done malty/bitterness balance. The finish of this full bodied ale is long, swwety and spicy.
