Looking for a beer to brew to help celebrate "Brew Years Eve", the April 7th anniversary of the repeal of prohibition? We came across this formula for the pre-prohibition American-style Bock. Called a malt tonic, the formula had an obscure and unexplained reference stating it was "Guaranteed not to be medicated to such an extent as to preclude its use as a beverage."* Boscos stands by that guarantee! * R. Wahl and M. Henius, American Handy Book of the Brewing, Malting and Auxiliary Trades (Wahl-Henius Institute, Chicago, 1908)

Tasted on tap at Nashville Brewpub. This bock pours a copper color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and sweet, caramel and fruity. A medium bodied bock. Malts are caramel, brown sugar and molasses. Hops are floral and earthy. Clean and smooth. Nice balance. Malty, sweet and fruity without being overly sweet. This beer was brewed from a Pre-Prohibition formula for an American Style Bock. I love these kinds of beers, sort of a homage to brewing days gone past. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
