The beer pours a translucent reddish-brown with a thin white ring for a head. The aroma is nutty malt, roast, and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is roasted malt, some coffee, caramel, and nuts. Very sessionable. -

500ml bottle - pours a clouded brown with orange highlights. Tan 1 finger thin cap has short life and weakly laces the glass. Aroma is on target for a domestic Brown ale - light roast a wee hint of cocoa, some light sweetness, light nuttiness and grassy hopping. Big burst of flavour in the front of this ale - toasty, cocoa malt sweetness balanced well by Kent goldings, a bit of hazel nut tone in the middle then a moderate rounded well balanced finish where the hops slightly overpower the nutty sweetness of the malts. Reviewing this was no chore for me because I love the brown ale style and this is a very good one. Not as sweet as the UK and more hopping but the signature nuttiness is there in this unfiltered ale. Probably my favorite quaff from this brewer.

Half-litre brown bottle from the LCBO. Second of their "Historic Beers of Canada". Pours a dark brown colour with red-amber highlights. The head is pretty small with not much retention of what is left and the same for lacing. Not much. On the other hand, smells great. Nice roasted malt with hints of cocoa, caramel, nuts and fruits. Medium-light bodied with very light carbonation. Lots of flavours from what the aromas were showing off. Soft wood dryness in the finish. The hop is well-blended in all of this. A pretty nice Canadian session brown ale.
