Messagère Millet, the latest member of our gluten-free beers, has finally reached Ferme Nouvelle-France, joining Messagère Blonde and Messagère Rousse, its younger sister. Brought overseas to Nouvelle-France, millet is used since antiquity as a liquid bread called sikaru. It was recommended as a nutritious and high-energy food for convalescing patients and children. This new lager combines millet’s nutritional value with a great taste. It also has a lower degree of alcohol due to the low fermentation process used to brew it. Honey-colored, this beer is well-balanced between the hops’ bitterness and the millet’s softness. You will be delighted by its light apple flavor and its freshness.

Purchased in a 12-pack with two other Messagere brews (4 of each) at the Metro store in Aylmer. Pours a light golden colour with a small frothy white head that dissipates quickly, leaving - not much. A very mild fresh citrus aroma occurs at first (giving out a little sourness). Small amounts of different grains eventually show up. It's pretty much the same for the taste. Just a tad weirder though. Not bad and great they make this for people with gluten allergies. A bit too different for me, but decent for a light beer (as it does show more character than most).
