Part of #febrewary 2016! THIS BEER CONTAINS PEANUTS A delicious duo meets a classic British beer style in what we are calling a “PB & grape” porter. The nicely roasted malt character of a porter ale gets a fun, flavourful twist with the addition of organic peanut butter and concord grape juice. History & Style A roasty brown ale with hundreds of years of history behind it, porter beer originated in London and was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. PB & grape is a sandwich, popular in North America, made with a layer of peanut butter & grape jelly between two slices of bread… or one slice, folded over, if you prefer. Tasting Notes Elephant Monsoon pours a nearly opaque brown/black with a tan head. The aroma is a medley of mocha, grape and peanut notes. The flavour features sweet grapey fruitiness followed by dark chocolate and peanuts. The finish is dry… with lingering nuts. Food Pairings Peanut butter pie with Oreo crust; “Elvis Presley” grilled sandwich (peanut butter, mashed banana & crisp bacon); Asian-spiced chicken meatballs with spicy peanut sauce. Technical Specs * ALC/VOL: 6.7% * INGREDIENTS: Local spring water, organic barley malts, organic concord grape juice, organic peanut butter (organic peanuts, organic coconut sugar, sea salt), organic hops, brewer’s yeast. * MALTS: Pale ale, munich, carafa, caramunich (all organic) * HOPS: Organic perle * YEAST: German ale * IBU’S: 30 * OG: 15 * FG: 2 * SERVING TEMP.: 8 C * GLASSWARE: Nonic

On tap at Arrow and Loon. Pours very little head whatsoever and has a very dark brown appearance. Aromas of toasty malts, hints of coffee, raisins and nuts. Flavours are quite sweet. Has lots of yeasty notes and barley malts. Also some bready malts. Peanut butter notes appear more in the finish. Smooth and a bit of a creamy mouthfeel. Seems like much more of a sweet stout. Still very enjoyable and easy to drink.

Pint enjoyed at the Loon. Pours a very dark brown colour, almost black with a small beige head and some dirty lacing. Roasted peanut scent over roasted malts and berry notes, among other dark fruits and coffee. Berry flavours with other dark fruits (some grapes) and mild roasted malts. The peanut butter is quite mild in the mouth, hardly noticeable. Medium-bodied and not syrupy, so decent mouthfeel. Refreshing fruity porter that is very well-brewed and would have from time-to-time. No peanut butter is left at the bottom of the beer like the Sawdust City one I had a few weeks back.
