Collaboration with Big Rig Brewery! Beau’s All Natural & Big Rig Brewery’s collaboration Peppermint Porter is a holiday treat! This is a dark ale with rich chocolate malt undertones that are echoed with the addition of cocoa nibs, and complemented with clean, cool peppermint in the finish. Matthew O’Hara of Beau’s and Lon Ladell of Big Rig designed the recipe together and brewed it up at Beau’s. History & Style: Porter beer originated in London as a beer style that attempted to bring together the best qualities of the favourite local beers – we thought this was a rather good reason for Beau’s and Big Rig to brew one together! We love the camaraderie of the craft beer scene in Ontario, and the friends we have made along this journey. We’re happy to call Lon Ladell of Big Rig one of them, and extra-happy we have this tasty collaborative beer to show for it. A toast to friendship! Tasting Notes: This deliciously dry porter displays rich dark malt character with chocolaty notes augmented by the use of cocoa nibs, and complemented by clean, cool peppermint in the finish. In fact, this beer is richer and cooler than Matt and Lon put together. Food Pairings: Slow-braised lamb shoulder with mint & date chutney; spicy lamb meatballs with minted béarnaise; chocolate & chèvre pudding cakes Recipes • "Peppermint Porter" Cocoa-Chèvre Pudding Cakes • "Peppermint Porter" Spicy Lamb Meatballs with Minted Béarnaise Technical Specs * Alc./Vol.: 5.4% * Ingredients: Local spring water, organic barley malts, organic cocoa nibs, organic dried peppermint leaves, organic hops, brewer’s yeast. * Malts: Pale Ale, Munich, Chocolate, Caramunich, Carafa, Caraaroma (all organic) * Hops: Organic Perle * IBU's: 31 * OG: 13.1°P * FG: 3.1°P * Ideal Serving Temperature: 9-12° C * Serving Glass: Willi

On tap at Arrow and Loon. Pours a good size frothy brownish head and has a dark brown appearance. Lacing is ok. Aromas of roasted malts, vanilla and a dash of mint. Flavours are of the roasted malt variety with strong coffee notes as well as vanilla. The mint is a bit more toward the finish, and fairly subtle as not to overwhelm, which is perfect since I cannot really stand minty beers. Smooth silky and creamy mouthfeel.

Enjoyed at the Arrow & the Loon. Poured a dark brown colour, almost black with hardly any highlights. Beige head and decent lacing. Roasted malt aromas with mild cocoa. The mint only comes out a bit when you swirl the glass. Smooth wet mouthfeel. Mild roasted malt taste with hints of chocolate and the mint showing in the finish. Quite nicely blended between the roasted malts and the mint. Seems more like a minty stout than a porter though.
