Rye malt and rare Polish hops lends peppery notes and an herbal earthiness to this roggenbier, which blend harmoniously with hints of clove and banana contributed by the weizen yeast. Kremlock is part of the Pro-Am Series… cheers to Michel Lecavalier, who won the 2014 Beau’s Oktoberfest homebrew contest, earning the prize of brewing his beer in the Beau’s brewhouse for 2015! History & Style Roggenbier is a Bavarian rye beer that was quite popular in the medieval era, but fell into obscurity in 1516 when the German Purity laws were adopted in Bavaria and stated that only barley could be used for brewing. Since the 1980s it has experienced a renaissance in the world of craft beer. Tasting Notes Aromas of spice and pepper precede grainy and spicy flavours from the rye malt. Some earthy flavours are present, along with a balanced clove/banana flavour. Polish Marynka and Sybilla hops enhance the spicy character. This beer is medium-bodied with a lingering finish. Food Pairings Smoked mackerel; gouda fritters with sour cream & mustard dip; black forest ham; caraway, havarti & rye bread grilled cheese; good-quality German-style cold cuts, gouda & havarti; Hard-boiled eggs & rye bread. Enjoyed at the Loon. Pours a deep amber colour with a warm cap and creamy lacing. Aromas of bananas and mild cloves. The taste is pretty much the same, but with a good amount of hops. Dry finish. And interesting grainy to hoppy brew with banana notes. A nice mix overall.

On tap at Arrow and Loon. Pours a pretty good size frothy off-white head and has a dark amber appearance. Very thick and dirty lacing. Aromas are mainly sweet and malty. Flavours are also quite malty, a bit of toffee, caramel and spices. Medium bodied. Astringent mouthfeel. Not too bad.
