In Eastern Ontario summer season is festival season. There are so many festivals from June through August it is truly unbelievable. We were approached by the Ottawa Jazz Festival in our second year of operation. They had heard good things about our beer and were looking for something interesting to offer at their festival that would appeal to 170,000 barret-wearing, clarinet appreciating fans. While they loved the idea of a local, all natural brewery, they were worried that they might get complaints if there were only one beer on offer. Once we found out how much beer they needed for the festival, we quickly offered to brew up a special batch for them and Festivale was born. Festivale is a perfect compliment to LugTread and a wonderful summer beer. It is light in body and very crisp while maintaining an assertive hop character and wonderful caramel maltiness. History & Style Festivale is our interpretation of the Alt beer style. Alt is German for old, and the beer is called this because it is one of the few remaining ales in Germany (not because of freshness concerns). The history of the style is really kind of cool.

Bottle. Colour - clear amber pour, generous off-white cap that lasts, good lacing. Aroma - nutty malt, toasted caramel, herbal hop notes. Mouthfeel - medium bodied, well carbonated. Flavour - very well balanced with the sweet caramel up front goving way to the roasted and nutty malt tones before finishing with a spicy and earthy hop finish. Quite good.

Pours a huge frothy, bubbly tan head that stays for awhile. Has a coppery/light brown appearance. Ok lacing. Toasty and light roasted malts, breads and mild hints of vanilla. Flavours are very nutty, toasty, with a bit of yeasty thickness. Some notes of toffee, spices and resin hops. In the finish, seems like bitter earthy type hops. Drying and slight warming sensation. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Smooth well balanced mouthfeel. Good balance between bitterness and sweetness. Really good stuff!

Now I admit right off the hop here that I am not familiar with this style, but I found this beer somewhat of a let down. It had an amazing reddish colour but over all I found this brew, although tasty, to be quite weak and watery. There was a bit of a hop bite, but not much, and I did denote a little bit of nuttiness but that dissipated quickly.

The beer poured a translucent red colour with a thin white cap. The aroma was mild caramel malt, some grains, floral hops, and spices. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was sweet malt, toffee, fruity, and spice, and had a nice bitter bite to it. -

Had this one on cask at the Arrow & the Loon in Ottawa. Cloudy deep amber colour with a beige head that has great retention and light spiderweb lacing. The nose was fruity with some malt. Notes of apple cider could be scented and yeast as it went. The mouthfeel was nice and lightly dry. The taste was very mild with caramel malt, grains and hints of butterscotch. This was a great one to have on cask, just chilled, not cold and it did get better (flavours) as it breathed. It was nice to have the last glass available on cask, and fit well with the bison burger I had.

From the 1 liter stein bottle at the " Mondial de la Bière 2009" in Strasbourg. Poured a clear copper gold colored ale with a thin white foamy head that had a short retention. The aroma is slight roasted malts, notes of caramel and honey. The flavour is sweet caramel malts, aromatic hops and spicy. The mouthfeel is crispy and round with a superb malty/hoppy balance. This light to medium bodied beer has a lingering bitter end. Very, very nice
