A deep brown, reddish tinged colored beer. There's a big, frothy textured, light tan head rising above. Great hang time. A thick film and medium ringlet are left behind. There's heather in the nose. Bready malt, dark fruit and more heather in the tasting. A light-medium body with ample carbonation.

Pleasantly peaty with a lovely chocolate color. It has an earthy and thoroughly organic aroma and coats the inside of your mouth with a wonderfully thick fullness. One of the best beers I've ever had, I don't believe in perfection but this comes close!

Aroma is very fine with deep and rich malty sweetness coming through as well as some cigar and whisky and some heather. Appearance is a very deep, mahogany-burgundy in color when held to the light with a full head on top that is light-brown in color and remains leaving creamy lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and robust with malty complexity as well as spicy balance with a palate that is full and thick as well as creamy and smooth and very good. Flavor is of chocolate with some faint wood as well as smoke with an aftertaste that is creamy and whisky-like with heather and a finish that is frothy and warming. Overall, a very fine scottish ale here and on par with Tasgall and Old Chub and highly recommended...

A dark brown appearance. A roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. The flavor is quite malty with some chocolate, raisins, and nutmeg. A sweet and alcoholic finish. Not bad.

Poured a average brown color small head. Aroma was chocolatte and dark fruits. Flavor was caramel smoky chocolate. Was a little thin almost watery.

Poured a brown color with mahoganey hues throughout. The head was thin but well-sustaining. Lacing was ok. The aroma was dark fruits, light chocolate, only very light smoke. Flavor was strong peat smoke flavors over light chocolate and caramel. With warmer temperatures a more ashy type smoke came through. Some dark fruits in support, but the flavor was a little too watery. Heather was completely missing under the smoke. The mouthfeel was light and acidic.

Dark pour, little head or lacing. Charred aroma. Flavor was heavy smoke and peat, a hint of sweetness. One dimensional, but not horrible. A decent representation of style.

Pours a dark purpley brown with a khaki head that laces beautifully. The aroma is faint, but malty and has a slight floral quality. The flavor is a bit of chocolate cookie and heather (heather tastes pale purple, but even I’m not sure what that means, exactly.) Tasty beer.
