Marooned on a deserted island after a violent storm shipwrecked him, Brewer John Osborn used whatever raw materials and supplies he could salvage from the flotsam of the wreckage to brew his beloved Porter, including oak barrels that once held 10 year-old whiskey. Rescue could now wait! This legend and our Brew Crew Big Beer Series continues...

Pours out in a clear dark brown colour with a small off-white head. Clean sweet and straightforward aroma of bourbon, oak and vanilla with wee hint of roasted malts. Medium-bodied with notes of oak, coconut and vanilla. Clean mouthfeel. Medium-bitter finish of oak, cocoa, vanilla and toasted almonds. The barrel-aging has taken over the beer completely leaving no room the other flavors to come out. And I’m not a huge fan of Bourbon.

From a bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown/black with an average light tan head. Aroma is malty with caramel and chocolate. Flavor is sweet as well with chocolate undertones. Decent hoppy aftertaste. A great beer from a great brewery.

A brownish black appearance with a large tan head. This bottle blew up all of the place upon opening. Luckily I didnt open it. The aroma is chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, and coffee. The bourbon really takes over this beer unlike any other barrel aged beer Ive had. Behind the burbon lied some chocolate, vanilla, and raisins. A sweet finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown (almost black) color with a thin, light-brown head. Nice aroma of vanilla, malt, and whiskey. Flavor is complex, with hints of whiskey, vanilla, and wood, with a strong roasted malt finish. I am a big fan of this.

Woody, chocolately, smokey aroma with vanilla, coffee, toffee and rich malt. Dark, dark brown, but not black, oak bark brown foam and rather clear for being so dark. Very smooth and lower carbonation make for a velvety texture. Rich and full flavor totally reflecting the aroma with more smoke, that nice beechwood smoke, not a nasty peaty phenolic...but smooth and warming, along with some alcohol, but its not obtrusive. A very nice, big smokey porter aged in wood. Well played.

Poured a dark brown color with a thin, light tan head that left spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of nuts, caramel malts, anise and other spices, some vanilla, whisky, and roasted malts. Taste of more nuts, roasted malts, light bourbon, more spices, light citrus, and light alcohol as well.
