Jadwiga Mead is a Poltorak Miod Pitny, what means that is made from 3:1 proportion of honey and water. It is aged for approximately 25 years in a combination of oak and bottle. It is the richest mead with incredible intensity, aroma, and depth of flavor, balance, length and sweetness. It is most definitely for dessert or by itself. The basket bottle is wicker with ribbons, and a metallic medallion inlay on a wax seal. The Jadwiga Poltorak Miod Pitny is the queen of all meads. Aged for 25 years this mead is from the world’s oldest commercial mead recipe still in use today. No words can fairly describe its sweet, complex flavors with hints of raisins and it's huge warming effect. One must try it to believe.

Aroma - fermenting honey-like aroma, silage, cool evenings in the summer near an orchard, maple syrup, caramel apples..wow
Appearance - light golden body, crystal clear, still, coates my glass with an impressive eveness..stunning to look at like a beautiful sunset in my glass
Taste - over-the-top sweetness, has the sticky calling card of honey...alcohol? Not a blip of it anywhere. Just a few drops completely coveres all corners of the tastebuds and it explodes into a stunning display of sweetness.
Palate - smooth, never cloying, but you know it’s made with honey
Overall - my first experience with a mead, and it was incredibly enjoyable, even if my blood sugar skyrocketed due to the sweetness. Definitely an after dinner sipper or dessert drink. Nice to know this bottle will keep after being opened. -

Bottle, at RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting. Beautiful deep amber to mahogany colour, no head nor carbonation. Intense oaky and honey aroma. Intense oaky and honey sweet flavour, very impressive but too sweet for me. (No wonder it is sweet, with the insane amount of honey it is made with.)

(Apis Miod Poltorak Jadwiga). Amber colour, no head. Aroma wineous, caramelly and fruity. Very sweet. Flavour is honey, fruits and alcohol. Very sweet finish. Lovely honeyish aftertaste.

Finally getting my chance to try this mead. Beautiful glowing gold. Strong melon and spicy alcohol. Scuppernongs. Richly sweet. Needs to be sipped as two big of a swallow burns, but a small sip is a very beautiful thing. Tons of honey. Most meads don’t smell this much like unfermented honey. Drinking this reminds of picking sunwarmed scuppernongs with their honeylike sweetness off the vine in my parents’ backyard as a kid.

Pours with an amber body topped with little head or lacing, which was expected. The aroma is slightly sweet with lots of alcohol...smells like brandy. The flavor is very sweet and full of honey, actually tastes like fresh honey to me. Full bodied and smooth.

1997 bottle. This is my first mead so wasn't sure how to rate this. Poured a nice orange color with zero head. Tasted very sweet but not bad, taste of honey and could taste the oak. mouthfeel was thick syrupy. Good need to have more meads to judge better.

Sampled a batch from 1997, bottled in 2004 (16% ABV). The pour was interesting. Nice golden amber color, pretty clear and thick (and no head). The fingers, as E mentioned, were wild. The aroma was sweet and oakey. The flavor was a bit overly sweet but very good. Honey comes through clearly and the alcohol doesn't hide. The oak aging permeates every aspect of the flavor. Mouthfeel was syrup-like and the only downer to the beer, in my opinion.

Okay...this is my first mead. I think I'll stick to BEER. It tastes like honey...only sweeter (goodness, is that possible?). Maybe if I had some more meads, I'd be able to say whether this is average, above average, or below.

Orange gold color, Small head. Aroma is orange honey and very sweet. Full bodied. Sticky and glass covering. If it were a wine, they would say it had big legs. Very sweet. Orange and honey flavors. Incredibly smooth. For all it’s sweetness it very easy to drink. It would have to be in small quantities, but it goes down very easily. I still can’t remember what childhood memory this stuff was triggering, but I do remember something like this when I was very small. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean smooth. Aftertaste is very sweet

from previous notes This mead is a work of art. A huge thanks to hopsrus for getting it to me. It’s clear amber colored, and has a velvety thick mouthfeel. I couldn’t detect any alcohol. The aroma and taste of honey is exquisite.
