Purchased in Montpelier, Vermont. Pours a cleaner golden colour with beautiful carbonation. Gets hazier at every pour. White creamy head, very good retention and some nice lacing. Earthy funky aromas from the Bretts. The yeast shows up with time, adding some balance of sweetness. Hints of roses and cherries. The taste is surprisingly bitter. Was not excepting this for a Saison, but here it is. Some of the orange notes lingers. Some much going on, hard to get the oak barrels used in this one. The nose gets a little more bitter as the beer gets completely cloudy. Quite a unique Saison which is nice to share and sip.

750ml bottle. Pours a murky light golden amber with a big fizzy, rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is brett some soft winey oak with some floral and fruity notes.
The flavor is sweet fruits, spices and wood with brett and some vinous alcohol. There's some acidic bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some spritzy carbonation and is a little watery.
Overall, an interesting beer. I like what the brett and the barrel add to it. -

RBAG 2012. Big thanks to whoever donated this one. Cloudy beige with a white foamy head floating on top. Aroma is just stupid awesome!!!!! Sour funk with gum, pungent cheese, oak, lemon...this list can go on forever. Wow flavour is just as massive!! Super funk, citrus, more gum, bile but in a good way!! Lemon really starting to shine through now. This beer is annihilating my taste buds! Grass, hay, some more oak........GUM! strange not one of these flavours sounds good but they all add up to be the colossal awesomeness what is this beer.

next to Bitter Monk, comes in a little lacking. a little brett in the aroma and flavor. the rose, fruit and malt only comes through close to room temp. it ends up good, but a little confused...not nearly as funky as there other brews, but enough to make it not stand out as a saison either. that said, still enjoyable, but probably a one timer at the price. Originally scored a 3.5 8+ months ago...NEVER have I had a beer that has improved so much with age. Way more funky, more what I was hoping it would be right away as the only bottled Anchorage beer I've seen in Pinot barrels as opposed to Chardonnay. Fantastic. Would be in the lo 4's now...average 3.8?

Sampled on 10/8/2011. This saison pours a slightly hazy orange gold color from a 750ml corked and caged bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head with good retention and long lasting lacing. The aroma is fruity, musty, oaky, spicy and bretty. A medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and sweet. Lots of citrus, grapefruit and tangerine, yeast and oak. The hops are herbal and citrusy. Nice carbonation. Lots of flavors here, wood, brett, yeast, spices, some must and funk. All the flavors are nicely balance, making this a very easy to drink saison. Very nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, smooth and a touch dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and spicy.
