Ons winterbier Melchior weerd een jaar gelagerd op Calvados vaten uit de streek van de Cotentin. Het resultaat is een dik degustatiebier met toasten van appel. The Melchior was aged for 8 months on Calvados barrels. Significant flavours of apple. The barrels contained Cognac for 10 years and Calvados for 8 years. We found these barrels at a local farmer in the French Cotentin. Contains barley malts, hop : Magnum, EK Goldings.

    Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

750 ml capped bottle, bought at the brewery. Poured in the original Alvinne stemmed tulip glass a gushing and unfiltered hazy copper-brown coloured BSA with a one finger light beige foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Good lacing. A lot of floating sediments. The aroma is strong sourish fruits, green apples, oranges, woody, oak, sweety malts and citrussy hops. The flavour is grainy malts, biscuits, grainy fruits, apples, spicy, vanilla, cinnamom, pepper. The mouthfeel is fulled by the grainy malts and fruits. The alcoholic perception is clear on the apples' way ( Calvados ). This medium to full bodied BSA has a dry sourish fruits finish. May not so easy drinkable but a quite impressive BSA from Flandern ending with a amazing warming effect. Perfect for the colds days of January !
