20th Anniversary (2015) Edition from Willow Park (Calgary), and comes in at 10.3% ABV. Clear mahogany pour under a frothy tan head. Malty aroma, with some alcohol and raisins. Damned good mouthfeel, buttery it was. Some good things going on with the flavour, including brown sugar, caramel, raisins, and alcohol. Some bitterness at the finish. This one was better than expected; I'd not had an Alley Kat beer before, and was expecting something more Big Rock-like. This was better.

This was a surprise from alleykat. 2010, 11.4% abv. Not the most exciting BW on the planet. Brit styled, heavy camrmelly/bready ness with some sourdough/dried cranberry/orange peel yeasty spiciness qualitites. Aces for drinkability, minus for complexity. I am not sure how to rate this, becuase I usually dig BWs for boldness, identity and strength, whereas this is highly drinkable and simple. Hmmmm.... I will rate the overall as its drinkability and the rest as compared to other BWs

Again, very cool that I'm the first American rater on BP rating this one, and another thank you goes out to Brad (mmmBeer) for sending this down from Canada. Shared with my brother while brewing up something of our own. The beer pours out a brownish-red crushed brick looking color, cloudy with a thick 1" light tan head. Aroma was big on the malts, brown sugar, with a fruityness that was sticking up for itself pretty well. Flavor had a really nice balance between the bitter and sweet. Piney goodness, chewy caramel malts, figs, light toffee notes with, again, some nice fruity notes. A very solid barleywine that if it were available in CA, might find itself if my fridge every other weekend.

This beer pours a dark reddish brown with a decent sized tan coloured head. The aroma is sweet malt with brown sugar and dates. The flavour is a tad sweet with ample sugar tones and hints of fruit.

ALLEY KAT? AWESOME BEER? HUH? 2.99$ for 341ml? ARE THEY F'N INSANE??!!? STOCK UP! No, wait, don't. I just claimed them...
2007
I had to open a second one cause I pretty much chugged the first one. When will the 9.9% hit? Right about................. now. Follows the formula of other tasty BW's - other GOOD BW's. Pours out a mahogany / burnt orange brew that shows no cap until mid pour and even at that it is just what one would expect - a thin skim at best. Damn, this is good smelling beer. Sweet, fresh and malty: caramel (not oversweet caramel), oranges, grapefruit, background chocolate, weak spice that is kinda like a subdued cinnamon (it's not cinnamon), hearty bread....... breathe deep..... aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh. The taste is great - nothing harsh about this - English style more so. Caramel, dark fruit mixed with some citrus, mild earthy spice, something else... damn, I just want to drink this, not analyze it. Man, this smells better and better as it warms. Mouthfeel is very soft, this brew gets close to syrupy but not in a bad way. Full bodied. Long lasting light bitter finish with a bit of alcohol - something that does not get noticed often here. ALLEY KAT EPIC! I'll get this before some of the other BW's available in my area. So smooth. It gets a 10 for drinkability. Makes me really want to open the '05 that I got in the Beerium. Only negative comment: the label concept is good but the art sucks! Although, that fat cat looks F'd up, stupid floating angel cats pouring beer on his bicep... they are all obviously smashed!... I guess it's pretty good after all! -

This beer appears copper coloured in the glass, off-white head, very attractive. The aroma is hops and caramel with some hints of malt. The mouthfeel is full-bodied, mildly carbonated, and dry. The flavour is hoppy with a white grapefruit finish.

shazbot! first thing that comes to mind after tasting this. poured with a decent light tan head that vanished pretty quickly. leaves a skiff on the top. colour is a deep amber. smell boasts fruitiness, caramel and hops. once i tasted this, i was shell shocked. hahahaha. no seriously, i wasn't expecting the smoothness that it carries. can't taste the alcohol at all. nice and sweet malts. the hops don't jump out like you think they would after smelling it. great brew for the locals.

pours a dark dark mahagony with a decent sized tan head that disappeared pretty quickly. smells of dark fruits (figs/prunes), and malts. taste is of figs, sugar, roasted malts, and alcohol. the mouthfeel is exceptionally smooth, imagine drinking silk... its like that, a bit hoppy aftertaste. a surprise considering its alley kat!! :| and for 2.09 canadian its priced perfectly....perfectly cheap! :)

WTF!!!!! This stuff is a amazing I'm ah struck about this beer. First of all I got to say this was the 2005 vintage that I celered under the front seat of my truck for three months, I bought it and a week later I couldn't find it in my fridge so then I assumed I just thought I bought it, but then when I stopped at red light the beer came flying up to my feet three monthes later. Any way beer poured a dam nice golden brown, it almost looked like it was glowing, the head slightly disappointed me disappearing quit fast. This smelt so good, sweet malts, caramel mixed with yeast and citrus made my mouth drool. The feel was very rich and smooth and nicely carbonated. The taste was completely awesome very full flavor, the taste of roasted malts, oranges, grapes finishing with sweet yeast was next to perfect.. This by far the best Alley Kat there is, I'll even go as far as saying I would compare this to any strong Belgian brew that I've had. Kick fawking ass!!!!!!!!

2005 Edition. Poured a hazy, deep amber color, with a small beige head. Foam shrank away quickly, no real carbonation to speak of. Lots of malt aroma, along with fruits and spices. Taste is mellow (comparatively) and the complexity of flavors hides the high alcohol. Malty sweet with a mild bitterness at the end. I didn't think it left a bad bitter aftertaste though, again kind of mellow. The alcohol warms, but doesn't overpower the taste. Very well done, not 'over-the-top'. Greatly enjoyed this one.
