Allagash Dubbel Reserve boasts a dark mahogany color with ruby hues and a complex malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. With time, Allagash Dubbel Reserve will mature in the bottle and acquire distinctive port and sherry characteristics. Suggested Food Pairings: Dubbel Reserve is an excellent complement to hearty beef stews, portabella mushroom and lamb dishes, or rich chocolaty desserts. Dubbel Reserve also pairs well with Brie, Cheddar, and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheeses. Purchased in the States by Lilihel. Hazy caramel-amber with a foamy head. Aromas of apples, spices, nuts and Belgian Ale Yeast. The flavours are slightly sweet, but with the spices and grassy hops, everything is well-balanced. Some dark fruits and mild mint. Goes down nicely.

Comes out of the tap an opaque light chocolaty brown with a fairly thick, pale tan head. Rich, smoky, malty aroma has a yeasty undertone, and invites a taste. Flavor is malty with hints of cinnamon, cloves, yeast and caramel - very toothsome. Texture is very smooth and leaves behind a nice tingle.

Pours a hazy dark copper colour with a small but persistent head and laces well. Aroma has malty sweetness and fruits. Rich malty flavour with hints of chocolate, plums, cloves and banana. Medium smooth mouthfeel. Yep, tasty brew. Glad I have three more.

I crossed the border recently to pickl up some Allagash brews and I'm still convinced that these are overrated. The typical reddish-brown dubbel colour with the smell of caramel malt and dark fruit. The flavour was quite bitter for a dubble, and missing the yeast characteristics.

Thuis poured a murky brown color with a beige head. The aroma contains some nutmeg, caramel,. toffee, and cherries. The flavor is excellent with some caramel, toffee, vanilla, and cherries. My only complaint, and it’s not much of one, is the body is a bit thin. Overall this is a nice beer.

somewhat port-like in it's initail sweetness and complexity, this is a tasty dubbel. chocolate and ripe fruit, a little dough and belgian yeasty spice, and barely noticed alcohol. better than the triple or grand cru.

A dark reddish brown colored ale. Big frothy textured off white head rises above. Some hang time. Nice soapy lacing is left behind. Dark fruit and molassess sweetness rise to the nose. The body is medium, some smoothness and decent carbonation. Fruit and brown sugar, like in the nose dominate the tasting. Nothing of a WOW factor, but a good drink, nonetheless.

Batch # 76. pours a clear ruby with a small tan head. aroma was very pleasant. it included oak,sweet malt, spices, plum and grapes. taste was vey similar to aroma. it included grapes,oak,citrus,plum, and a slight bubble gum flavor. overall i enjoyed this brew.

12/27/2007 7:40:53 AM BP S4L8F4T4O4 12 oz brown bottle. Aroma is a mild sweet well controlled hint of strong ale. Gunk on bottom of bottle provides for a swirling brown hazy pour, quite hypnotizing. Big initial alky content impact on the taste buds. More than I like for a Belgy. This is what makes the american belgy styles so different than the real belgies, its the lack of refined smoothness. I have yet to taste an american imitation of a belgy that is really civilized. Overall a little too strong on the alky character than I care for. Has a difficult time hiding the 7% and it leaves a lingering medicinal bite on the palate that hangs around for a while. This cannot hold a candle to Bornem Dubbel or Corsy Pater Brown. IMHO, I don’t feel that american made abbey dubbels should be in the same style as Belgies.

The aroma is slightly sweet and earthy with hints of spice and some figs and creamy-like and very aromatic. The appearance is a dark brown and earthy and hard to see through when held to the light with a big, off-white head that sticks to the glass evenly. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and very complex and extremely well-balanced and very good. The flavor is very tasty and very creamy with hints of spice and figs with a wet finish that coats the pallet very nicely. Overall, not as good as the 10 but still excellent and very refreshing and very enjoyable to sip on anytime.
