Halloween is time for our annual Evil Dead Red specialty brew (available on draft only). Vivid mahogany color, good head formation and retention. Rich, chewy, toasty, malty flavors perfectly balanced by a moderate hoppy bitterness.

22 oz bottle. Pours deep ruby red amber with a big fluffy light tan head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet nutty caramel malts with fruity piney hops.
The flavor is sweet nutty caramel malt with a lot of fruit and a piney resiny hop finish with a little alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, a nice hoppy red. -

Bottle. Deep ruby-hued amber with a medium tan head. Aroma is hoppy with abundant caramel, toffee notes, sweet malt, light chocolate and dark bread. Taste is sweet malt, fruit hops, floral hops, herbal notes, caramel, light toffee, dark bread and cocoa. Body is medium with a chewy carbonation and lingering hop bitterness. Ends with more caramel, dark bread, toffee notes, floral hops, citrus, cocoa and herbal notes.

Finally not a draft only, to my benefit. Über fresh balanced malty caramel and spice and citrus hop goodness. Even slightly nutty. Very nice hoppy red - one of the best out there.

On tap at the brewery. Reddish brown color, hoppy aroma, mild flavor. It's a nice session brew. I'll have to try it again; it didn't overwhelm me with flavors

Big copper colored brew. Big malt front with a huge hop back running to the rescue. Creamy palate.Excellent session brew if you could get it.

A beer I've never seen anywhere but at The Liar's Club in Mission Beach. So when I saw it being offered at O'Brien's tonight, I had to do a double-take.
While It's quite true that I generally shy away from "Red Beers" (i.e. too damn cloyingly sweet), I also knew that this is a recipe that dates all the way back to the Skip Virgillo-era of Alesmith -- who would never put his name onto a beer that he couldn't give a thumbs-up to. And, in turn, I'm hard-pressed not to give this a thumbs-up, too.
I'll skip the obvious (i.e. "This beer is pretty-damn red in color" Duh), and cut right to the quick, as far as what this beer has in store.
Nicely complex malt bill. Yes, this does look good, but, more importantly, it tastes good, and feel good in the mouthfeel -- and all leading up to the fact that this is pretty damn tasty in the drinkability dept.
I do wish that this had something of a more aggressive hop profile (ala Midnight Sun's Humpy's Sockeye Red IPA), but even as a "normal" Red -- this aint bad. No, not at all.
A nice pint of beer, that I can easily see getting again with no qualms. Recommended.

I too had this on cask and wasn't overly impressed. Nice red color and smooth mouthfeel. Not as hoppy as I'd like but has a nice malt finish.

This brew pours with a beautiful reddish body topped by a medium thick foamy off-white head with good lacing. The aroma is slighlty sweet and well balanced leaning towards grapefruity hops. The flavor is sweet and grapefruity from the hops with a good malty balance and a nice grapefruity hop finish. Medium bodied and very smooth.

A great beer. I am always a big fan of the red ales, but this one is simply amazing. Great color, great name and label, and the blend of malt and hop flavors is absolutely perfect. Thumbs up to alesmith.

Murky orange topped off with a nice and creamy head..unassuming aroma..slight hoppiness carried by pineapple and cherries..some drinkable stuff here..oh yes..
