Two decades ago in downtown Abita Springs a beer was born. The vision for the original Abita Beer from 20 years ago remains unchanged today. Using Abita Springs famous artesian water and the finest ingredients to make a beer of the highest quality and flavor are the secrets to Abita’s success. Abita Golden and Amber were the first beers produced by Louisiana’s original microbrewery, the Abita Brewing Company, housed in what is now the Abita Brew Pub on Levenson Street in the heart of Abita Springs. To mark this wonderful milestone Abita Brewing Company is releasing a special commemorative beer, the Anniversary Pilsner. The limited edition brew is clean and snappy with a bright floral character, dry hopped with fresh American hops.

This was an excellent pilsener. Clear gold in colour, huge white head, with a biscuity malt aroma and a hint of hops. The flavour was surprisingly hoppy when you consider how weak the aroma was.

Poured a medium gold with a malty, hoppy, spicy aroma. The mouth feel was moderate with active carbonation. that enhanced the spicy aftertaste. Light lacing on the side of the glass. In short this is a very drinkable plisner. Enjoyable on its own or with a variety of foods.

Beer poured pale/golden yellow with very little head or lacing. Aroma was extreme grass and flowers. The flavor was sweet pilsner malts with a lot of floral grassy undertones with mild bitterness and a weird soapy flavor which dissipated as it warmed. The hops reminded me of the spices in doritos...and I'm not sure that is a wonderful thing, although it got significantly better as it warmed.

This could get killed by calling itself a Pilsner, but for creativity I gave it ok numbers. Poured a really ugly pale yellow color, looked a lot like a pale macro. The thin but very persistent head with excellent lacing saved its appearance. The aroma was floral, grapefruity, soapy. The flavor was citrus, floral, soap, some more floral/soapy fragrances, as if my wife walked in the room with a bunch of perfume on, even though she doesn't wear perfume. The pils malts were light but the only thing keeping me from thinking this was really just an American Extra Pale Ale, as the hops were all American. Light thin watery body. Drinkable, but basically hop water, boring.

Poured a nice golden color with big head. Aroma was very floral and grassy. Flavor was nice and crisp. saaz hops and had a malt balance to it. Mouthfeel was smooth. Not what i expected but very good.

Pours with a golden body topped by a thin to medium thick, white head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a slight grassy, hayey hop note that gives the beer a touch of bitterness. Light bodied, smooth and a touch dry.

Pours a clear gold with a thick, almost sticky white head. The aroma has good hay malt and a slightly grassy hop quality. The flavor isn't quite as dry as I'd like for a good pils, but it does have an assertive bitterness in the finish that would come out nicely if the beer were dried out a bit.

This looked very nice for a pilsner. A golden color with a frothy white head. A grassy, floral, and lemon aroma. The flavor is very well balanced with some saaz hops and grassiness showing but with a nice malty and creamy mouthfeel as well. The finish is very clean and crisp. I wasnt expecting much from this beer but it was a pleasent surprise.

I've been a long-term fan of Abita, ever since I lived in Pensacola FL in the early 90's. Has it really been twenty years for Abita? Wow. Times flies when you're having fun!
And "fun" is an apt expression for this beer. No overally thick and turgid, over-spiced, over-hopped, over-alcoholic Aniversary beer here. Nope. This is a beer you would actually want to drink while in Abita Springs, with the 90-degree heat, and the 90+% humidty!
Like most well-made Pilseners, this has a smooth&complex mouthfeel and malt bill, that can often only come from a double-decoction during the initial brewing process.
And this sort of complex, firm, yet completely accessible malt profile gives the Saaz-y hoppiness plenty of leeway to it's magic. Fairly dry, fairly bitter, but not too much so. Excellent balance with this beer, from start to finish.
Quite approachable and poundable, though it'd be a shame to slug this back too quickly! Take your time, it's a primo beer now & later. :)
Probably killer with a flat or two of mud-bugs. But not at all shabby solo, too!
An excellent Pils. Cheers to Abita, and here's to another 20 years more!

I just saw this brew recently so I went ahead and picked it up for my reviewing pleasure. The aroma is malty and crisp with some pleasant hop character coming through as well as some fresh grain and some hay. The appearance is a wonderful golden yellow when held to the light with a medium-sized head on top that only discipates slightly and is very carbonated and white in color as well as bubbly. The mouthfeel is light-bodied and smooth and has nice dry hopped complexity balanced well with sweet malt with a palate that is crisp and sharp and wet-like. The flavor is clean, refreshing, sharp, and crisp with some nice flowery overtones as well as some sweet malt with an aftertaste that is hoppier than expected and good with a finish that is clean and tasty. Overall, not a bad beer but not exactly what I was expecting and offers some solid foundations of dried hops; good session beer here but I have to part with Lang and Suds; I have had much better pilsners brewed in the American tradition like this one. I also must add, this beer has some soapy dish water overtones as well and I can't quite figure that out but I have experienced other brews with this same characteristic.
