Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers! Ingredients:Gladfield pale malt, marris otter pale malt, roasted barley, pale chocolate malt, chocolate malt, Special B malt, oat malt. Southern Cross and Willamette hops. Hops: Southern Cross, Chinook, Cascade. Malt: Pale, Crystal, CaraAroma, Chocolate, Carafa Special, Oat and Roasted Barley. Yeast: Wyeast 1272 - All american Ale IBU: 70 SRM: 50 (As black as it gets) Awards: Bronze Medal Stout & Porter - Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards 2011

The beer pours a solid black colour with a 1" foamy brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, bitter coffee, dark chocolate, and anise. Mouthfeel is creamy, full bodied and average carbonation. The flavour is dark bitter chocolate

Half liter bottle pours with a near inky black body that supports a thin tan colored head of foam. The aroma has some nice and dark roasted notes as well as chocolate and a pleasing degree of toastiness. The taste is yummy, I’m loving this. It is smooth and subtle yet rich and deep. It’s a paradox beer. I get lots of highly roasted malts, toffee covered chocolate goodness and a modest degree of mineral notes, sweet dark fruitiness and a touch of booziness. YUM.

330 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 10.0%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, exotic woodwork. Rich mouthfeel. The medium sweet flavour is roasty with notes of strong coffee and dark bitter chocolate, some vanilla, and distinct bittering hops. Impressive.

Interesting imperial stout. Has a lot of bitter to it....like heavy liquorice or anise. Pretty complex with some slight tartness. Dark black appearance. Aroma of chocolate and black liquorice. Not really diggin the anise on steroids, otherwise this could be a 9 in flavor and overall.

Finally a stout worth writing home about. An oily dark black pour results in a foamy chocolate brown head. Chocolate, coffee, burnt grains, and molasses comprise the aroma. Body is very full. Lots of chocolate and coffee in the flavours with some hop notes in the finish. Great beer.

Pours black.(good start)Smallish brown head clings to the glass. Cocoa and coffee aroma. Huge full flavoured imperial stout. Tastes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee grounds, oak and licorice. Throw in some hops and you have a great beer. Creamy full body. Great way to start the day.

Single from the LCBO. Pours a real dark colour (cannot see any highlights) with a creamy-bubbly beige head that stays and adds lots of sticky and creamy lace. Aromas of dark fruits (prunes, plums), molasses, roasted malts and even hints of maple syrup. Creamy and smooth, as not to heavy. Good bitterness over the roasted malts. Creates a nice dryness and lingers. Quite a beautiful Imperial Stout.

Pours a freakin' huge frothy, milky like head and leaves pretty thick lacing. Has a dark brown appearance, almost pitch black. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and nutty malts. Flavours are quite rich and varied with dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and some notes of toast and nutty malts. Fairly smooth and creamy mouthfeel. For a 10%abv beer, it's really very well hidden, quite deceiving. Goes down way too easy. This one is pretty amazing and well balanced. Love it!

bottle: Decants a beep black ale that seems to be clear when held to bright light, wicked creamy mocha cap lasts and laces. Aroma is pungent and complex - cocoa-coffee-prunes, roasty malts, floral, citrus - a great amalgam of aromas. Body is rich and robust. Flavour follows aroma with more punch from the hops giving a decadent cocoa-dark fruit-piney discernment - leads to a long wet finish where roast and hop battle for dominance. I've tasted impies that rivaled this for taste but not for richness or mouth feel definitely an artisanal stout.

What a nice surprise this was! Beautiful pour, near ink black, leaves a firm chocolate lacing in the glass. Aroma has roasted coffee, dark chocolate, slight nuts, hops, smoke, and a hint of alcohol. Feel is light for a 10th brew, but deceptively chewy and super smooth. Flavor is all the aroma had minus the alcohol. Phenomenal beer.
