Comes out of the growler a barely translucent cola brown with a thick and fluffy light tan head. In fact, it fizzed a lot, so have a towel handy if you get this in a growler - or a bottle. Aroma has roast malt, coffee, caramel and horehound notes plus a nutty hint. Lip-smacking flavor has roast malt, coffee and caramel notes with a nice nutty tone and a hint of licorice to round it out. Finish is a little, but not overly, sweet. Firm texture has a strong and lasting fizz. No wonder this won the contest.
