Brewed especially for the The Samuel Adams® Harvest Collection. Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Part of their "Harvest Collection" 12-pack, brought back from the States by Lilihel. Pours a slightly hazy, dark amber colour, with a creamy off-white head, decent retention and great lacing. Sweet caramel nose at first, but becomes bread-like, with malt aromas, hints of bananas and nuts. Eventually, coffee comes out with the roasted malt. Medium-bodied, with a little stick. The taste is milder, like most Sam Adams, with wheat, notes of citrus and cloves. An average malty brew with some darker wheat.

Arrived in the holiday 12er. I think that I have been coming to admire about Samuel adams is the quality consistency. They make scores opf different beers and they all start at good and move on to excellent. This is no exception. The head lasts all the way through the whole experience of drinking it. A lot of light crisp fruits and some caramel. Thin, watery mouthfeel, but I think that is pretty normal for this style. A good beer. Not one I would seek out again, but that has more to do with the style than this particular beer.

Copper pour with a thick creamy white head. Fair amount of lace on the glass. Detected plum and banana in the taste. Appearance was the only aspect that I enjoyed.

Sampled from bottle. Pours copper-brown with a faint haze. Scattered white head. Grainy malt and clove aroma. Balanced with a hint of toasted malt and banana. Clove is a bit strong. Medium-bodied. Good example of the style.

Looks like maple syrup. Almost no head. Smells like wheat and carmelized grain. Chewy mouthfeel. Taste like a sweet bock/wheat mix. What the hell is a dunkelweizen anyway???

the clove spiciness and the banana fruitiness are done pretty well, though there's not quite as much difference from a tradition hefe (besides the color) to get very excited. ok brew, though, and a style I like.

single bottle from Kroger, mix-pick six pack (this, pyramid okto, hopadillo, + 3 rodeo clowns) .. . pours a rather lifeless mop water brown .. low foam .. . odd bitterness .. mild esters .. light chocolate banana and soiled bark .. . wow, way to dumbed down and a bit disappointing .. . . I have to go now. My planet needs me.

Comes out of the tap a nearly opaque dark honey brown. Malty aroma has wheaty and yeasty tones and a chocolaty hint. Rich, wheaty, malty flavor has yeasty, nutty and caramel notes. Full-bodied texture is lively and fizzy.

Tame for the style and a bit thin. Lacked the heavy kick and assertive banana/clove yeast flavors that should stand out in a dark wheat. The sweetness was a bit too much as well. Drinkable, just not worth seeking out.

Sampled on 12/31/2010. This dunkelweizen pours a medium to light brown color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent retention and lacing. The aroma is bready, caramel, fruity and sweet. A medium to light bodied dunkel. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. Decent carbonation. Nice breadiness, but a little lacking in sweetness. Decent and drinkable, yet seems to be missing something. Could use a little more sweetness and a touch more breadiness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
