June 2016: 330 ml unlabelled bottle at Mikkeller Bar, Aarhus. Brown color, large white head. Aroma and flavour very much like the ordinary Orval, with "farmhouse" and "spicy" notes, distinct hops. It is quite impressive that so much flavour can be put into a beer of this moderate ABV.

473 ml can, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 12%. Pitch black colour, moderate and creamy tan head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee, vanilla and cherries. Medium sour and tart flavour with the same elements as the aroma, also very distinct bittering hops. Not perfectly balanced, but well worth sampling.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Reddish golden colour, white head. Aroma and flavour of beechwood smoked malts. Low bitterness. Pleasant and easy drinking, as soon as you have accepted that this is how a Rauchbier is supposed to taste.

Aug. 2019: 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 9.5%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Aroma of spicy Belgian ale yeast, sweetish pilsener malts, and herbal and spicy hops. The flavour is slightly citric and moderately spicy, also with sweet notes of pilsener malts.

On tap at Mandag i Annen, Cardinal, Stavanger. Black colour, tan head. The aroma and flavour reveal that there is a very decent and basic imperial stout underneath here, so what is the point with the mango? I suspect that it is here just because it is considered "fashionable" (the moderate addition of chili I can understand - sort of). Well, the moderate mango does not taste bad - it just does not bring anything of value to the beer. Still, the beer is very drinkable.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Nearly clear orange colour, white head. Citrus, caramel and toffee in the aroma. Distinctly bitter flavour, on a background of sufficient malts. A decent West Coast IPA.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Brewed with redcurrants and sour cherries. Clear red colour, off-white head. The aroma and the medium sour flavour are as expected dominated by redcurrants and sour cherries, not too sweet, quite nice and refreshing.

Oct. 2018: 750 ml corked & caged bottle. ABV is 7.7%. Deep red to purple colour, moderate pink head. Distinct aroma of ripe and over-ripe raspberries, also notes of farmhouse and oak. Very sour flavour with an abundance of raspberries, also notes of lemons and oak. Astringent finish.

330 ml bottle, brewed for Brooklyn Brewery at E.C. Dahls, Trondheim, consumed at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 4.6%. Crystal clear and very pale golden colour, large white head. Sweetish aroma of pilsener malts and grassy and floral hops. Crisp and clean pilsener flavour, moderate herbal hops.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 8.5%. Hazy yellow colour, moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of various citrus fruits and tropical fruits. The flavour is not quite as fresh as the aroma, but has notes of the same fruits, with a piney bitterness in the finish.

Aroma of sour berries (haskap berries are a new acquaintance for me, smells like a blend of blueberries and blackberries), oak and lactic acid. Sour flavour, with the same elements as the aroma. Minimal bitterness.

July 2016: RBESG 2016 in Barcelona. On tap at the Garage. Black colour. Very malty aroma and flavour, a bit unfresh, too moderate hops. Not much smoke though. Did not blow my socks off this one.

March 2017: 355 ml can, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6%. Cloudy golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of tropical fruits. The flavour is first citrussy, then notes of tropical fruits, before it ends in a distinct bitterness. Slightly sour overall.

May 2012: Sample at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Golden colour. Nice aroma of tropical fruits and saison yeast. Tropical fruits in the flavour too, also notes of coriander. Good beer.

Dec. 2018: 16.9 fl.oz. bottle, from Vinmonopolet. Bottled November 2015. ABV is 5.9%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of acid, stale lemons and brettanomyces. Fizzy mouthfeel, The medium sour flavour has notes of lemons, funk, vinegar and brettanomyces. Better flavour when more of the yeast is poured in. Not something I'd buy again, though.
