UPS ALERT! (BEER SWAPPING)
Beer Swapping by STALEYIV
I was caught by UPS some how during a beer swap and not sure what happened. UPS called me and told me it was conviscated sometime during transit. There is no way in hell the bottles broke, I am sure of it. They did not tell me much and I did not want to press the guy about it but I seriously don't know how they found out. Beer swappers beware and be very careful so you don't end up like me. Any thoughts on the topic...

In Reply To #16 WOW... that really does suck Brett. Especially after you took all the time to be cautious with the packing. Bastards. More of a reason to bo with FedEx. You do bring up a good point that I thought of a while back. I almost sent a beer swap in an old beer box. LOL... yeah, they would have opened that up and got exactly what they expected. Fortunately I realized my mistake and shipped it in a blender box.
In Reply To #21 Yes. I got my beer back and a refund on the shipping. I'll look into the rules a little more closely before I try again. However, I will be reviewing FedEx rules, not UPS's rules. I will not forget that UPS opened my box without cause (found out that a new employee was responsible for determining that the dry ice label was some sort of 'hazard'). Asshats! nstall - I think you should be able to get your beer back (they are converting your property). UPS may be able to hold your feet to the fire on the shipping charges, so if the cost of the beer is nominal, screw the beer and the hastle and switch to FedEx. Just my $.02
Heard too many bad stories about UPS...have always used FedEx to ship beer and never had a problem. Also, using the box-in-box, with lots of padding, so the inner box doesn't move around, is extra hassle, but very effective (on top of the Ziplock bags, bubblewrap, and peanuts). Keep 'em tight! Any members here in the U.S. ship to Canada? How's your luck with that?
I have not tried out-of-country swaps but I only know Chopz who is from Canada. I am not sure if it would work but I have thought about trying but with my recent debacle with my beer swap, I am kinda sketcky about them right now, especially with crossing international borders. However, I will say, it could work possibly.
In Reply To #1 UPS ships wine from wineries no problem. I would call, find out the official policy, then if not to your liking, go around it. UPS has shipped some pretty iffy items for me over the years, you can work with em. By the way, I have sent bier from here to the US with no problems. I wonder sometime about the brews freezing in the cargo bays of airplanes, but the customs here and in the states were no problem. In Deutsch, I have had 30 half liters sent to me from the other side of the country for 7 Euros. Of course, it is like getting a package from on side of Montana to another, but hey! I guess you guys ignored my post with the ACTUAL UPS rules: (h) Packages containing alcoholic beverages are accepted for transportation only on a contractual basis. To receive service for packages containing alcoholic beverages, the shipper must sign a contract and agree to the provisions set forth in the approved UPS Agreement for the Transportation of Wine Shipments. All packages containing alcoholic beverages must have a UPS label requesting an adult signature upon delivery.... Why the hell doesn't someone fill out the damn form? I guess that's too logical.
