Who's into Photography?

Non-Beer Discussion by SASSY

...or other art mediums for that matter? I'm fairly new to photography; however, I have a tendency to go all in with anything I do for longer than a day, and I'm hooked. It's great for organizing and creating connections, too, which fits my professional interests. Homebrewing and cooking popped my art cherry. Most of my funwork is on Facebook. Will post a link soon...Let's share.

I'm a bit of an amatuer... architecture, landscapes & venturing into sports (kids). A lot of what's on my walls are B&W & sepias of travel pics of architecture & landscapes & a couple of architectural details in watercolor.

Sassy, one of my daughters is a photography major. She has her own blog for fashion and photography too: http://triplethread.blogspot.com/ And... (proud papa talking) she is in this month's Seventeen magazine! BooYah! (pg 60, "Show Us Your Style" section, "dreamy")

I'm trying to get into it... I recently bought a digital camera with a traditional viewfinder, just to try to stay with something familiar. The cataract in my right eye makes it useless, so I'm still trying to get used to the LCD screen. As much as I travel, you'd think I'd get some interesting pix, but I seem to get to interesting places at the least interesting times... like the middle of the night. I did get a few good shots of the Calder stabile in downtown Grand Rapids recently. Not much going on at Founders' brewery at 3am, dammit!

Mattfungus, that sounds like a cool project...ever thought of publishing the photos in a book? Thanks, slowrunner! I committed to a self-portrait-a-day for 365 days. It's been fun and a good way to learn how to use my camera, find my style, and stretch my creativity. Unfortunately, I don't own a camera that is compatible with a remote shutter release, so some shots are a real bitch. One day, I'll have a big girl camera. Taking suggestions... Lou -- I saw your daughter's article on Facebook. Freaking awesome!

Unfortunately the project was done on a digital camera that was running off a 3.5 in floppy. Thus the graphic size was never big or clear enough. each pics maximum size is about 3"x5". After that it becomes pixalated. Books would be fun, and I use to do some publishing, no more however. Never got into it with pics. What are you planning on doing with your camera, btw, sass.

Ugh, I've been very honest and open about my difficulties around the concept of time. [:p]

...Although, I should note that I didn't say I'd have all of them within 365 days, only 365 days of photos...So there. Meh.

My old point and shoot? Not sure yet. With a new camera? I'd like to have a lowish-end DSLR that shoots in RAW, has a swivel/tilt LCD screen, and is remote friendly. Nothing too fancy...I've been fairly content with what my current camera is able to do in manual mode, with the exceptions of the specs I mentioned here. Working out plans to build a lightbox/greenhouse outside. That will be more useful to me than a newer camera! Cheaper, too...
